    UPVC Front door refresh

I have a 23 year old white UPVC Rehau front door half glass and half plain smooth bottom panel. It is looking a rather tired so my latest idea is to replace the bottom panel and give it a coat of paint. I have priced up a new door but it was in the region of £1,000! The thickness of the bottom...

    Electric heating

St Helier is not in Guernsey and St Helier may have a larger population than Newport but we all have separate energy providers on all of the islands.

    Electric heating

The IOW is larger and also has a population approximately double the size of Guernsey. I am sure if we were a worthwhile investment for other utility providers they would all have the gas boats queuing at the harbour!

    Electric heating

Yes, we have an undersea cable to France for our electric with back up generators at the local power station when someone pulls the plug out!! The gas is shipped over by boat and supplied to some houses. The others if they want gas have the bottled tanks which I am pretty sure are only for...

    Electric heating

Yes, I enjoy living where I do and quite happy that we only have single utility providers. That is the price you pay for living on a small island.

    Carpet Underlay

I asked my carpet fitter for a really good underlay, it one of those foam ones and 11mm thick. It feels lovely underfoot and I am sure it was about £60 for the 15sm roll. The one he used in my bedroom was a 10mm thickness and made by a brand called Cosi, that’s really good too.

    Laying 1800 lengths

My engineered wood came in 3 lengths with the longest being 1800mm. I worked out the central focal point if the room , my fireplace and measured the width of the strips from there. Each outer wall strip was cut down its length. I also staggered the joints and they all line up across the room.

    To plaster or not?

I have a 130 year old granite cottage that did have a concrete path attached to the front of the house. This has been removed and the gravel from the drive spread out. I now have a gap in the plaster. Should I go ahead and plaster this? How far below ground level should be plastered?
