    Suitability For Cavity Wall Insulation

Good morning! I'm wondering about getting cavity wall insulation and I don't know if my house will be suitable so if anyone can point me in the right direction.... The house was built around 1975 by my local council using a pre-fab design. Sometime in the 1980s the council built brick walls...

    Camellia Care

Hi and thanks to both for you for your replies! Any ideas when it'll be the growing season again then? It was in a pot prior to putting into the ground and I thought I'd spread the roots out enough, would it be worth digging it up, spreading the roots and re-planting or is it best to leave it...

    Camellia Care

Hi Lorena, Thanks for your suggestions, I live in an area of neutral water, neither hard or soft. Soil in neutral and I dug the camellia in with the acidic compost recommended for them. I'll go and see about getting some of this Maxicrop stuff, is it commonly available - there aren't a huge...

    Camellia Care

Hi All! Just a quick question about trying to sort out a camellia in my garden. It was in a pot and the leaves started to go yellow so I re-planted it into the garden, using the correct compost for camellias. Since then it hasn't really done much and there are only a few leaves remaining. I have...

    Right To Light in Scotland

Good afternoon! I'm currently objecting to a proposed extension by my next-door neighbour on the grounds that his plans will block out the majority of the light into my living room and I've found this which may assist my objection: http://www.planning-applications.co.uk/righttolight.htm I...

    Water stain in bedroom ceiling

Hi again, I've painted the stain with the B-I-N stuff and it's now gone, I've alos painted over that with two coats of white matt emulsion, which blends in with the ceiling perfectly. However, looking at certain angles I can see a slightly darker patch where the sealer went on - is this due to...

    Water stain in bedroom ceiling

Hi again, I had a further look around town and I've got some Zinsser B-I-N as it's shellac based and is marketed to cover stains! Thanks again for all your advice!

    Water stain in bedroom ceiling

Thanks very much! As I said, I've had a look at the local DIY shops - only two of them! - and all they have is this 3 in 1 primer, sealer and undercoat. Is this likely to be oil based? If it's not, do you think it'll be up to the job? Thanks once again!

    Replacement BBU?

Hi, and thanks for your information! ben, I know they're not the most efficent but it works and, until very recently - 12pm today in fact - I was unaware that they was an energy-efficient BBU around and the cost of putting in a condensing boiler is prohibative, especially as there's nothing...

    Replacement BBU?

Hi all, I've currently got a Baxi Bermuda 401 which, whilst old, still works happily and gives stacks of heating and hot water. Just wondering though that, should it die one day, are there still any Baxi BBUs in manufacture? And how much would replacemtn fitting be? I'm aware that I've got to...

    Water stain in bedroom ceiling

Hi, I had a slight roof leak whilst I've been away - fixed now - but it's left a brown water stain on my white ceiling and the girlfriend's nagging me to get it sorted! I've had a look on here and people say to use a primer / sealer prior to touching up the area. I've seen that B&Q stock 3 in...

Wallpaper coming away in the corner

Good evening! I was hoping that someone could advise me how to repair some wallaper that is peeling slightly in my living room. Currently it's coming away in the top corner ever so slightly - I can't quite get my fingernail under it - so how would I repair it? Is it even worth trying as am I...

What type of system do I have?

Thanks guys! I can have the heating and hw on independently of one another and I do have a 3-way valve, if that makes any difference? There is a header tank for the hw (I presume) in the loft by the way.

What type of system do I have?

Hi, apologies as I really ought to know this! I'm changing my central heating controller and it says 'no wiring changes will be required on a fully-pumped system' (replacing Potterton controller with Potterton controller and I'm hoping to use the existing backplate and wiring). I have a back...

Replacing Potterton EP2002- Backplate / Wiring?

Thanks Jon. I haven't actually got the EP6002 yet, I was enquiring to see if I could do it myself or if I'd need to get in someone who knows about these things... :D If it's just a simple matter of swapping the faceplates then I'll do it but if wiring changes are required I'll get an...

Replacing Potterton EP2002- Backplate / Wiring?

Hi, I'm planning on replacing my current Potterton EP2002 with the EP6002 for more flexibilty. Can anyone tell me if the backplate and wiring are the same for both controllers and it's just the front that'll be changed? If it's of any use I have TRVs on all bar one radiator, a thermostat on...

    Plant for the bathroom

Hi, I know that this isn't in the garden as such, but can anyone suggest a nice small plant to go in my bathroom. It'll sit on the window ledge and get the morning sun between sunrise and about 11am. I had a bromeliad but I think that got a bit damp as it went all mushy and died. I've heard...

Can anyone recommend a weed control membrane?

Thank you once again. I saw the metal loops so I've got some of them for around the edges. Now I know what I'll be doing this weekend! Take care.

Can anyone recommend a weed control membrane?

Thanks for the suggestion but my girlfriend and I are planning children sometime in the future and gravel and membrane will be easier to lift and replace with turf than concrete will! Maybe I'm just lazy..... :D
