    Pressure Question (Already viewed FAQ's)

I've noted the FAQ page that states that a combi boiler will lose pressure at around 0.5Bar per 6 months and that if the pressure drops quicker than this I have a leak. I also note that it may be through the Pressure Relief Valve or through the Automatic Air Vent. I'm not sure when my...

    Weight Limit on walls

Thanks. I've just got back from the shop because we wanted to have a look for another lighter tile. I pointed out to the manager (who hasn't in any way been pushy) that I did want to wait for independent advice on the wieght issue. Whilst there he stopped one of their regular tiler customers...

    Weight Limit on walls

I've read many times on here to visit a proper tiling shop and to take their advice but I'm confused because the Bal website offers different advice. I have a shower area that has two walls of 12.5mm plasterboard fixed to a timber studwork with a new plaster skim over. I was planning on...

Confused - So many BAL products

I've been reading many of the comments on this site and understand that BAL is King but also that I should take advice from a proper tiling shop. Anyway, I've just had all the bathroom plastered and foresee the shower area being the main area to get right. One wall is plastered brick the...

    Pipework in false wall

The stud wall will only be 100mm internally so how would I get a 90 deg bend (from vertical to horizontal) to the rad valves without a connection as any connection would be inaccessible after tiling? I didn't think plastic pipe could get such tight bends. What is the reason for not using...

    Bathroom extractor fans and lights

Thanks for all the advice. Presumably if I take a spare MCB down to a local electrical suppliers they can get the right RCBO for me. Also am I right in thinking that the fans don't have to be RCD protected because they are in the loft?

    Bathroom extractor fans and lights

If I did go down this route, is this what you mean? (I do have a Volex CPU)...

    Bathroom extractor fans and lights

I will be having two (inline) extractor fans in the bathroom (actually positioned in the loft) , one for the shower and one for the rest of the bathroom. The power consumption for them will be 28 and 38 watts respectively. The shower fan will also come on with its own Zone 1 light (50w). The...

    Pipework in false wall

I'm going to be building a false wall for a shower and will be installing a towel rad on the other side of the wall. Is there anything protection wise that I should do with the 15mm copper pipe inside the false wall? (If needs be I can create bends so that there are no joints inside the wall.)

    Electrics in bathroom

The bathroom is quite large (4mx3m) and the switch would be well away from the bath, shower and sink. Obviously a nice polished chrome switch would look better but would it be safer to have a white plastic switch?

    Electrics in bathroom

Point taken. You say FCU's etc, what are the etceteras? Can I put a normal lightswitch on a wall outside of zone 2?

    Electrics in bathroom

I note that regs state: Standard electrical wall fittings (such as wall sockets, flexible cord outlets and fused switches etc) are not IP rated so cannot be installed within zones 0, 1 or 2. No standard socket outlets are allowed within 3m of the outer limit of zone 1, and any socket fitted...

90 degree bend in plastic pipe

Never thought of the pressure to retain its normal shape. Think I'll stick to copper.

90 degree bend in plastic pipe

I know how tight I can get a 90 degree bend in 15mm copper pipe. Can you get the same amount of bend in speedfit plastic pipe?

    Fault finding

I installed a Texecom Veritas R8Plus about 3 years ago and haven't had any major problems. However, about a week ago when part setting at bedtime the control panel was making the noise that indicates an open circuit and so wouldn't set. I reset it and part setted again and this time it did set...

Inlet pipes for mixer shower or wall mounted taps

I'd like to install a thermostatic mixer shower and possibly wall mounted bath taps. Should I purchase these first so that I can read the instructions in full or should I be able to install the inlet pipes beforehand at 150mm spacing? If yes to the latter should I leave a good length of pipe...

    Waste pipe run too long

Thanks guys. On its way to the outside it is going to pass a sink that I have yet to install. Can this be connected into the same pipe?

    Waste pipe run too long

I have read the notes on this site for drainage in the bathroom and see that a 38mm waste pipe run should not be more than 2.3m long. Our bathroom is 3m x 4m with the 4m being the farthest point from the outside wall. To maximise this space it is essential to have a shower waste that is going...

    Core drill for waste pipe

I'm planning on buying a core drill to pass a 40mm waste pipe through our medium density block walls. Should I get a 40mm or 42mm drill core? I can get hold of a 40mm one much cheaper than a 42mm for some reason but not sure if there would be enough play.

    Flow Rates

So to sum up, now that we have a combi boiler there is no real need for 22mm pipes anywhere from the boiler if I can utilize 15mm ones?
