Adding a PIR to an existing Lighting Circuit

I'm looking to add a PIR to an existing Hallway Lighting Circuit. Although, I will be rewiring the lighting circuit (upgrading the cables) so have an opportunity to change things slightly. The current circuit is a 3-way switching set up in quite a long hallway. My Wife would like to keep the...

    Tiling Steps

Hi bobasd, Thanks for the reply, I have removed the stubs and resurfaced the steps with a granite / cement mix. So each step is now about 20-30mm higher. I had thought about nosings, (I assume you mean the metal strips?) They are quite expensive! But b=maybe the only option. Do you have any...

    Tiling Steps

Hi, I'm about to take on a tiling job that will push the limits of my abilities! I would say I'm quite comfortable tiling Bathrooms & Kitchens having done quite a few in the past. However, these steps will certainly test my ability. So was hoping for some advice regarding a few questions I...

    Discrete Decking Screws

Hi Big-all, Thanks for the response. The boards are ok to get wet. But they recommend Oiling otherwise they will naturally weather and go grey. But essentially, they are sold as Decking so are definitely good for the job. They're not T&G just smooth edged and will be spaced at 3-4mm. I'm not...

    Discrete Decking Screws

Hi, Hopefully I'm posting this in the right area? Anyway, I'm looking to install some decking boards on a balcony I have. The boards are not the standard ridged boards you see a lot of, but a smooth hardwood board (Balau, I think its called). I was wanting to have a discrete fixing system that...

Hi, Could someone offer me a little advice on how i should go about plastering over a lintel that's just been installed for the purpose of a new door? I have attached a coupe of pics for information. But I'm wondering which plaster would be best to start with. How many layers / levels should I...

Do i need to rebuild the steps?

Hi vinn, I'm not sure I need to be to concerned over building regs. This is not a job the council will be signing off anyway. Surely if I built up each step by 2" then the rise would remain the same throughout? Once I have stripped all the old adhesive and tiles I'll post new pics. Thanks again

Do i need to rebuild the steps?

Thanks for the responses. There are no signs of cracks in the concrete itself. Just a rough finish due to weather ( I assume). Unfortunately, I'm not sure whether this is made up of concrete or a sand cement mix. So if I'm understanding the general consensus, then a complete rebuild is not...

oHi, I'm just looking for your opinion on this job I'm needing done at the front of my house. Essentially, all I'm after is to re-tile / slab the stairs leading to my front door. However, I've been advised that I should really look to replace the steps completely. The reason being that the...

Hi, I'm in the middle of fitting a new shower room. This is essentially a downstairs shower room which will seldom be used for showering. ( more just for the toilet). Anyway, having tiled showers UN the past, I have never applied a membrane to the walls. Just the usual adhesive and grout...

Hi Thanks again for all the responses. You guys may have just saved me rushing out and spending £250 in a clean that isn't necessary yet. I will keep an eye on the second tank as advised and see how it goes. Interestingly, I noticed that the dip pipe in the second tank is broken. So, will need...

    Septic tank question

Hi John, The property hasn't been empty for any length of time? What makes you think that (if you don't mind me asking?) The scum at the top must be about 3" thick and can best be described as a big floating cow pat...... Poking through with the stick shows about 3 foot of liquid. Then I hit...

    Septic tank question

Hi, I have a septic tank in a house I have recently moved into. I have just looked inside to find that there appears to be a thicker than usual amount of Scum on the top. I poked a stick through it and the crust was pretty hard. So it got me wondering if this means it's time to pump it out...
