    Cable for light in shed

Yes correct its within the shed. Is the earth wire supposed to be earthed to the body of the lamp then or is it snipped off and not used? I ask as there isn't any where to fix it to that I can see.

    Cable for light in shed

Was planning on buying a bit of 1.5mm flat grey cable to run from a 13A Fused switched Spur (changed the fuse for 3A) Its just got to power one 10w Led Lamp in the shed. Is this the correct cable? The light doesn't appear to have an earth connection on it so do I just run 2 core cable from the...

    Pouring Concrete Steps - Rebar?

Just finished the shuttering for some steps I'm making in the garden. Its just a small flight measuring 1mtr wide x 70cm high. They consist of 3 steps with a 13" tread. MOT1 Base nice and solid. Won't be pouring the concrete now until the spring but my question is do I need to add any rebar...

    SWA on a wall

Ok been digging a short trench today 400mm deep to bury my 2.5mm SWA in. It has to terminate at a junction box about 600mm up the rear wall of the house. I have the correct cleats to fix it to the wall but should it have any other protection such as conduit for example? The wall is south...

Because when I go to the shed early in the morning to get my fishing stuff out I can't see to get the keys in the locks. A PIR will come on as I approach the shed hopefully.

    Swapping Halogen bulb for Led

Thanks guys. Might just buy a LED PIR then and save the hassle. No problem for me to hard wire it in but as they are listed as integral I'm guessing the whole unit has to be changed once they fail. Was thinking just changing a bulb would be simpler and cheaper in the future and something my Son...

    Swapping Halogen bulb for Led

Thinking of buying a 60w PIR bulkhead light to fix on the shed. It takes a 42w GLS ES bulb. Can I simply swap it for a 10W Led bulb as listed below or isn't it that simple? https://www.toolstation.com/corby-lighting-led-gls-frosted-dimmable-lamp/p60786

Power from an outside Socket to a shed.

The outdoor socket was no longer required. With having a power outlet in the shed the shed door is open should any electric tools be used and they can know be plugged in there. The socket was installed before my Grandaughter was born and now she is running around the garden I decided that for...

    12v 7AH Lead Acid Battery.

Got one of these batteries that needs replacing. It has spade connections on the terminals for connecting the wires to. My question is, does anyone know what the silicone like substance is that is applied over the top of the connections. It had set reasonably hard, but it prised away, easily...

    Toolstation IP66 Junction Box

Ok thanks. I'll use a brass gland and see how it goes.

    Toolstation IP66 Junction Box

Anyone used these? Notice these boxes describe the entry points as screwed knockouts. Do you just tighten a brass gland into them to push them through or do you have to actually knock them through first? https://www.toolstation.com/junction-box-ip66/p47979?searchstr=ip66%20junction%20box

Power from an outside Socket to a shed.

Just finished erecting a new shed yesterday. Its next to the older shed that we've had for several years now. The old shed has electric but was never done correctly and this time I want to get it right. The plan is to take the SWA Cable into the new shed where one double socket and maybe a...

Power from an outside Socket to a shed.

Hi folks, just about ready to start this job now. I have removed the outside IP66 switched socket box from the wall and have decided to replace it with an IP66 junction box. The 2.5mm cable from the house will enter through the back of this and the 2.5mm SWA will enter through the bottom. Nice...

Power from an outside Socket to a shed.

It's all making sense and really appreciate your help lads. The main fuse box does have RCD protection yes. Will check out youtube for the gland termination info I need and yes a metal double socket at the shed end sounds perfect. Thanks for all the help I'll get some bits sorted and make a start.

Power from an outside Socket to a shed.

That's good news thanks. So I need SWG and galvanised Conduit in order to bury it. Now do I need to remove the existing outside IP66 box from the wall and replace it with maybe this https://www.screwfix.com/p/bg-13a-switched-weatherproof-rcd-fcu/20523#_=p in order to connect the SWG cable ?

Power from an outside Socket to a shed.

Thanks for the replies and sorry for the delay getting back, yesterday was a bit hectic. Yes its a kids 12v electric car. The charger is AC Input: 240V 50Hz; DC Output: 12V 1000mA. Had another look and there is a 13A fused spur off a kitchen socket. This has an on/off switch so the single...
