    Wifi/App Thermostat plug?

oil vs electric really - with an oil filled heater the oil retains the heat without the need of continuous power - an electric heater requires continuous power in order to maintain output, so running costs are generally higher. Unless I've misunderstood

    Wifi/App Thermostat plug?

Hi all, so, the garage has started getting colder now. So i'm thinking of heating sources. I haven't yet completed the insulation as it's a month or two before the sparky is booked to wired the place out so until he's sorted I can't really crack on. The garage is 9m x 3m however I have put...

Garage Conversion Project (from bare Garage to Wokshop/Gym/Shed)

one is, one isn't. It's connected to the house, so one side wall is single skin the other is insulated. Ceiling isn't insulated either. I was considering insulating the wall but didn't want to lose too much width - but i'll more than likely regret that choice later down the line.

    Simple CAD software?

I've had a little look and a play - seems bloody complicated in comparison to sketch up. Apparently Sketchup has a "layout" function that'll do all I want, just need to pay for the pro license.

    plaster alternative?

left hand side is exposed, right hand side is attached to the house. I could (as I'm guessing you're going to suggest) insulated that wall too but the garage isn't all that wide inside and I'd hate to lose any width. I've not used any foam to this point, all the boards are screwed to joists -...

    plaster alternative?

Hi all, so i'm slowly plugging away in my garage - trying to make it as nice of a space to be as I can - bit of a workshop, bit of a man cave. So, This is what I have at the mo. I've made a partition wall at one end, just to separate where I put the motorbike and stuff, from the main...

Garage Conversion Project (from bare Garage to Wokshop/Gym/Shed)

Few more bits completed, made a start on the carpet - makes for a much nicer working environment! made a chunk of a start on my assembly bench too which has added loads of storage. I have 3 lights left to mount on the ceiling and have just had my mitre fence setup arrive so need to make some...

went for the multitool - looks a good bit of kit and already been put to work on a door frame - much easier than my crap chiselling skills

    Simple CAD software?

Hi all, after a nudge in the right direction for a simple CAd software package for project work, nothing too major required in terms of functions, but I'd like to draw up my plan first, then create a cutting list from my plan. i.e. next project on my list is a new garden gate, i'd like to...

    Garage door project discussion

Hi all, i'm after some assistance and advice. Currently my garage door is your normal up and over jobby and it's AWFUL! the gap isn't 100% square, floor is slightly out so the standard door doesn't seem to really fit (almost 1/2" gap in places) So it needs to go. We're not intending to...

New tool time but what to go for?

yeah i'm swaying toward the drill press. I made a bit of a boo boo with my mitre saw in that the bench was a little narrow and as such it sits further forward than I planned otherwise I wouldn't be able to turn to cut anything near 45 degress. This being said, with it further forward I now have...

New tool time but what to go for?

Hi all, ok so yesterday I turned a year older and as is the case most years, this meant an influx of screwfix vouchers :D So, atm i'm building my little workshop with the aim of being able to make more things - I've no real end aim but we've some large (ish) projects on the horizon and i'd...

    Curved sun room windows

Hi all, long term, we're looking to extend the side of our house, but in the mean time i'm trying to "dress" the sun room we have - mainly because if we remove it I'll lose where we put gardening tools and they'll have to live in the garage!!!! no chance it's similar to the one below, i.e...

    Locksmith or DIY?

well locksmith has been and suggested the lock needs spares which aren't made anymore as the lock that's fitted in long since been made obsolete. looking likely he'll be fitting us with internal locks on that door - not wanting the change the patio door just yet (was quoted £2,500) as we...

    Locksmith or DIY?

at work at the mo, but door handle as above and lock looks like below (although I can only see the barrel even with handles removed. With the door locked I of course cannot remove the retaining screw in the cylinder, I only have access to the key slot either side.

    Locksmith or DIY?

Hi all, after some advice. I've got a sliding back door, normal UPVC thing. annoyingly, the lock has decided to break somewhere in that the key no longer turns. I can remove the key but cannot unlock nor open the door. Anything I can do myself? or do I need a locksmith? I'm assuming I...

Garage Conversion Project (from bare Garage to Wokshop/Gym/Shed)

Hi all, I've slowly been plugging away on my garage. When we moved in, it had old kitchen cabinets taking up an odd part of the space and just generally not a nice area. So, I stripped it all out, painted the walls white, with a 2ft band of damp-proof paint along the bottom (the white went...

Condensate cyclinder with Lime - can I cover it?

fantastic (does mean I now need to return a diamond core drill...) I was wondering, as it's been connected via the side connection under ground, top as you say, covered with a rubber grommit. So i'm just going to cement around the thing and lay my slab back on. which is brilliant, didn't...

Condensate cyclinder with Lime - can I cover it?

Hi all, we've just had a new boiler fitted, and being as we have no drainage out the back we were advised we need a cylinder with the lime chippings put it. Which they've done. Sadly this meant lifting a paving slab up. Now, this weekend I want to replace the slab, the cyclinder they installed...
