    Exterior light, cable to use?

Hi, The exterior light at my garage has been wired from an FCU, spurred from a light switch in the garage. Only thing is, it's wired from the 2nd switch of a two way switch so depending on which switch i used in the garage last it will only work sometimes. I'm going to change this and...

    Albion Mainsflow faulty heat exchanger

is the sludging you are refering to the same as you might find in the bottom of a radiator and because the water in the store is circulated through the whole system? therefore, if you had an indirectly heated thermal store where the heating loop was sealed from the store, sludging wouldn't occur?

Unvented cylinder, is this too much and how to get quotes

Hi, Am planning on replacing my vented cylinder with a high pressure system. I could fit a thermal store myself but would rather have an unvented so need a pro fitter. Tried to get people round for quotes, but the only ones who turned up so far are british gas. I think it's because I...

Filling gap between board and ceiling?

cheers for the additional info. my plan was to have a go myself as I like diy (and saving cash) but if i end up with a poor finish I'll get a pro in to skim over and finish it nicely. it's not a big room, only about 2m square and a decent percentage will be tiled over as well. Thanks again.

Filling gap between board and ceiling?

cheers for the tips, I'll check that stuff out. The gaps are less than 1cm i reckon. do you still tape the top edge even though there is no taper?

Filling gap between board and ceiling?

Hi, Currently building an ensuite and about to start finishing the plasterboard. I bought tapered edge plasterboard sheets and planned to tape/joint them myseld. Due to my inexperience and the fact that I had some tricky angles due to my room having eaves, not all the boards are hard...

    Replacing a roof window

hmmm, I have a 'friend' who may (or may not have) just replaced a velux with one of the exact same type (only newer)..... Am I reading your post correctly that it would require a building warrant even if it's a replacement?

HW Cylinder, 22mm feed, 15mm return question?

As mentioned, I'm keeping the boiler as it's only 2 years old, but replacing the cylinder. It's 25 years old and I want mains pressure HW. I'm aware 22mm feed and return is specified on the cylinders I've been looking at. My question was would 22mm feed, 15mm return cause any problems if I...

HW Cylinder, 22mm feed, 15mm return question?

Not planning on fitting an unvented myself, hence why I am also considering a thermal store as the diy option. I was just about to edit my post to say that it looks like the return from the cylinder is 15mm until it gets to the garage. I can see two manifolds in the same inspection hatch...

HW Cylinder, 22mm feed, 15mm return question?

Hi, As mentioned on some of my other posts, i'm planning on replacing my gravity fed cylinder with an unvented or thermal store (depending on whether i pay for a pro or diy myself) I've got a bosch worcester greenstar 24ri boiler, 2 years old, sealed system, S plan (i think). My current...

    Retrospective Building Control

Maybe it's one of those urban myths but I have heard people say that after a period of time it doesn't matter and they can't make you require certification? Not sure what length of time that is though. Would be good if one of the experts could clear that up too when they answer your question?

Tap hole too small for tap!!

and i see they have a £50 quid mini one too, that's getting better! (already splurged most of the cash on the main ensuite)

Tap hole too small for tap!!

Yeah, it's to remind me of the urinal/basin i used to have in my halls of residence room at uni........ :D  It possibly is designed for a mini mixer, and that one looks good, unfortunatly it's double the price of the basin! Hopefully I can find a cheaper one.

Any last tips before I finalise ensuite electrics.

All the ensuite electrics are protected by an RCD i'm fitting as mentioned so should be ok there. Wasn't ware of the enclosure for crimped cables. Would replace the hole thing but I reckon that would be quite difficult/time consuming for me. Cheers, Murray.

Tap hole too small for tap!!

Hi, Bought a low projection "Impulse Unispace" basin with 1 tap hole for a wc i'm constructing. Tried my fancy monobloc mixer I bought for my en-suite on it just to see and the base was too wide so that when the tap tails were attached it wouldn't fit. Not a problem as I was planning on...

What to use to drill hole in wall for soil pipe and how?

ah cool, i didn't know you could hire the actual drill bits as well! i was planning the pipe to go through the wall into an equal branch then straight down, so I guess i will need to allow for the socket as well. Thanks,
