Best solution for leveling new chipboard floors?

I am seeking the best solution for sloping floors in a timber frame new build flat. I won't go into the reasons for the sloping floors. A surveyor and structural engineer have confirmed it is not a structural problem. The builder has discussed 2 possible solutions. The first is to take up...

    Which backing for tiles?

I can't verify it without removing the wall tiles but I assume the plasterboard has sheared behind the grout line. My reasoning was that marine ply should obviously be considerably stronger and hopefully not shear. Do you have an alternative solution to the problem?

    Which backing for tiles?

We are in a new build timber frame property. There has been movement and the shower room walls have settled and the tiles have cracked along grout lines in 3 places from floor to ceiling. The builder will soon be tackling the problem. I am concerned that once the tiling has been re-done...

    Which radiator brand?

I currently have Kermi radiators, but can't seem to find a 300w x 600h. What radiator of that size would you recommend to match the Kermis? Thanks

Can Cracked Composite Shower Tray be Satisfactorily Mended?

We have a hairline crack to the front of our composite shower tray. It extends vertically for about 3 inches and does not go over the top edge. (I think it is composite but it could be thick acrylic) The builder doesn't want to replace it and we are not too keen on all the upheaval...

    Is c.h. leak seal harmful?

Thanks for your reply. If they were to be in a container other than that supplied how do you tell the difference between inhibitor and leak seal? Is the leak seal more obviously milky/cloudy or can you not tell?

    Can decorator's caulk stop cracking?

I read the Screwfix review and one of the four was quite negative. Would this instead of tape, stop the cracking?

So if I use silicone instead, will that stop it cracking again?

    Can decorator's caulk stop cracking?

B I have an overhead box that contains the kitchen extractor. It is formed from plasterboard. The join between the ceiling and the box was simply sealed with caulk. It cracked quite quickly. The plasterer says it just requires more caulk. I am concerned that he does this and by the time...

    Is c.h. leak seal harmful?

Is c.h. leak seal harmful to the boiler and system? Will there be problems in the medium to long term if used? The manufacturers of leak seal say no. The boiler manufacturers don't approve. Who is right? How can I tell the stuff apart? I am suspicious that an installer may want to use...

Opinion on Plastic Central Heating Pipes

Thanks to both of you. That has made me feel better about plastic pipes. As a supplementary. The Viessmann boiler has been losing pressure. It loses 1 bar every 2 weeks. It is only 4 months old and it just had the heat exchanger, pump and pressure sensor replaced. This was due to it also...

Opinion on Plastic Central Heating Pipes

I would be interested in opinion of a c.h. system with 10mm plastic Hep2O class S pipes, because we have just bought a new property with that system The main reason I ask is because approximately 20 years ago we bought a property with plastic c.h. pipes and we had a lot of bother. Despite...

    Sarnafil and potential bird damage

Can birds for example jackdaws/crows, damage Sarnafil membrane? I ask because we are on the top floor of a new block with a flat Sarnafil roof. Over the past 2-3 weeks we have heard quite noisy tapping. We thought it was coming from the flat below. It sounded like carpet laying. When it...

New Build Sloping Chipboard Floor. Is this to be expected?

Thanks for your replies. Surveys are generally home valuation surveys. As it was a new build with NHBC certification we did not think it necessary to pay for an extensive and expensive survey. The reason I asked if this was the norm was because I read through a snagging website and there...

New Build Sloping Chipboard Floor. Is this to be expected?

We have just moved into a new build upper flat. It was finished just 2 months ago. The floor is multi layered for noise and insulation. However in some parts of the flat the chipboard floor has a slope, eg in the bathroom there is a 10mm difference over 1.5 metres. It is the same in the...

Does fibreboard underlay need to be gapped?

When you search online some sites suggest gaps between each board others don't mention it. It is confusing Any experience of Diall fibreboard?

    Engineered wood over steel floor

Thanks for replying. I was hoping the 6mm fibreboard would be a solution for noise. The metal floor is on the top floor above the inernal communal stairs, so I am assuming condensation should not be a problem, or am I wrong?
