    Solvent weld alignment difficulties!

That’s about as far as you can get the pipe in the fitting when not using glue i.e. with a dry-fit. I put a pencil line next to the joint after the fit, disassembled it and measured. With the elbow nearer to the wall, where it needs to be, then I would need the pipe going to the trap to be a bit...

    Solvent weld alignment difficulties!

Thanks for your input. Just to be clear, are you suggesting that I solvent weld everything aside from the final underfloor connection and then dry-fit it to check everything is aligned? Then assuming all is well, weld the structure (essentially one-piece) to the existing underfloor pipe?

    Solvent weld alignment difficulties!

I need to attach to existing pipe in the floor and then come up behind bathroom units, which only afford 50mm of clearance. The attached picture is my first attempt, which is not permanent as the connection in the floor has been done using compression. I spent ages lining everything up and...

Which is best grand copper pipe?

Useful to know. I looked at some of the reviews for Wednesbury and a fair few commented on problems with ripples. Having said that, the vast majority were happy with it.

Which is best grand copper pipe?

Need to do some piping for a thermostatic shower, and I am planning to use copper as the pipework will be in the stud wall. i started-out looking for WRAS approved pipe, but I couldn’t find any and so perhaps that is only relevant to fittings!? EN 1057 seems to be the specification to go for...

Speedfit fittings and copper pipe issue relating to verdigris

I’ve got a fair bit of plumbing experience along with the tools and know-how, but there is reason why I haven’t gone full copper. The question was really about whether Speedfit or compression joints are better in difficult to reach areas. The prime consideration being around compression joints...

Speedfit fittings and copper pipe issue relating to verdigris

Thanks for that. Some of the joints I need to make will be under the shower tray and extremely difficult to get to once installed. This is why I thought it a good idea to use speedfit as opposed to compression joints, to avoid issues of backing off which you can get with compressions. am I...

Speedfit fittings and copper pipe issue relating to verdigris

Realise this is an odd question, but I was searching around on the Internet today and I came across a comment from a plumber discussing verdigris caused by the teeth on Speedfit fittings; they are there if you look very closely! He reckoned it wasn’t that uncommon and provided pictorial...

Basin tap hole slightly oval in shape. Problem?

Oh okay, I’m trying to fix a problem that doesn’t exist! Thanks for putting me straight. One final question I have is that a couple of the taps I have looked at have bodies that are around 34 mm in diameter which is just about the size of the hole. Is there a particular minimum diameter tap I...

Basin tap hole slightly oval in shape. Problem?

Ah OK. Do the monoblocs all come with tails, with no part of the tap body being inserted into the hole? Forgive my ignorance!

Basin tap hole slightly oval in shape. Problem?

I wasn’t thinking about watertightness, but more about the fact that the hole will be slightly smaller due to the oval shape And whether this will mean that I will find it difficult to fit the taps? never fitted such things before, and so just want to check that the imperfection is not going to...

Basin tap hole slightly oval in shape. Problem?

My new basin arrived and i note that the tap hole is not quite round and wonder if this is a problem; haven’t currently got a tap to test it with. As per attached picture, the hole at its narrowest point is just under 34 mm. I wonder if this is going to be okay?

    Gap above shower door

I am pondering on what height shower door to purchase, with the options being between 1.9m and 2m, and would appreciate peoples advice / experiences. I am 1.86m tall and was initially going to go with the 1.9m door, leaving the gap to the ceiling of 300mm. I’m starting to think though that there...

Shower door weight on metal stud wall

I am pondering on whether to buy a 6 mm or 8 mm shower door, to be fitted on a 2“ metal stud wall as found in most modern houses. The cause of my indecision is to do with the weight of the door on such flimsy (recessed) walls. I have currently got the studs exposed and I have added strengthening...

Solvent weld - Mix ‘n’ match?

I have Floplast waste pipe and need to feed into the soilstack. Due to space restrictions (internal wall built over the top!) it will be easier to use an offset reducer, but Floplast only manufacture (solvent weld) reducers with the entry point in the centre. Obviously other manufacturers do...

    110mm Solvent Weld Reducers

Right next to my shower tray there is a 110 mm soil pipe and i need to feed-in the 40mm waste pipe. Being in a recess, once it is connected up it is virtually inaccessible without taking the tray back out again. :-/ My question relates to the best type of reducer to go with i.e. solvent weld or...

    Cutting solvent weld pipe

just out of curiosity, is there any reason not to use the cutter in the attached picture on solvent weld pipe? i’ve got guillotine-type cutters, but they tend to squash the pipe and it’s not easy to get a straight cut, or cut it at all for that matter!

Waste pipe through floor - best approach?

Yeah, that was what I was thinking of doing and bringing short piece of pipe out of the floor. Then use a union joint to connect to the pipework that will go to the basin, which itself will also be solvent weld. The thinking behind this is that any future changes above the floor will be very...

Waste pipe through floor - best approach?

With reference to the photos, I have solvent weld pipe coming out of the floor and need to adjust it as it is too far from the wall and will foul on the new units. Previously, they just hacked the units to get the pipework to fit! First question is whether I should just move the pipe and bring...
