    Waste pipe hole

I need to create a 43mm hole in the breezeblock and brick outside wall of my kitchen so that i can move the waste pipe from the sink. What sort of tool do I need to do this as I'm certain that my basic hammer drill is not up to the task.

    AEG 68002KF problem

Brought an ex display AEG 68002KF from Wickes for £200 about 4 years ago. I was having a kitchen extension built at the time so thought it would come in useful at some point. It's been sitting in the loft since then but I've finally had it wired in today. As might have been predicted, it does...

spontaneous crack in laminate worktop surface

About 2 months ago I brought a Wickes 3000mm laminate kitchen worktop. This has been sitting on a run of cabinets supporting its entire length, although not actually secured to them as I am still working on the kitchen. Yesterday I noticed a vertical split had suddenly appeared in the laminate...

    B and Q drawer fronts

You would have thought so, however the cabinet instructions only show how to attach a top drawer and door, and the drawer pack had no instructions at all.As you say, a call to B&Q is in order.

    B and Q drawer fronts

A rather specific problem, but hopefully somebody else has experienced it. I have just brought a 500mm B and Q floor cabinet along with the suggested 3 drawer front pack. The drawer fronts fit to the standard B and Q drawer packs and there is one smaller top drawer front and two larger middle...

    Safe for drinking water?

I've just installed a new sink and monobloc tap in my kitchen. The supplied braided connectors that came with the tap were not quite long enough to reach the hot and cold water pipes so I extended them using a couple of "Wickes" compression flexible tap connectors. This all works fine, but I've...

    Installing second hand dishwasher

It's going to be a while before I can install it fully under the counter and attach it. Is it safe to use it freestanding as a temporary measure?

    Installing second hand dishwasher

Thanks for that. The machine in question is a Beko DW 450. According to the installation manual ( just a series of diagrams with no explanation) the height between the bottom of the legs and the top of the unit is adjustable between 820 and 870mm. However, it also says that the legs should not...

    Installing second hand dishwasher

I'm installing a second hand fully integrated slimline dishwasher in my kitchen. Is it sufficient to secure it only to the worktop, or should I attach it to the side of the cabinets it sits between as well?

    Sealing foam for kitchen sink

Yes. There was some on the old sink that I've just taken out. I've managed to track some down in B&Q. It comes on a roll with some clips for securing the sink. Although some people seem to think that silicone sealant might do a better job.

    Sealing foam for kitchen sink

My new sink has come without any foam strip for sealing it to the worktop. I've tracked down a variety of different waterproof foams but I'm not sure how thick it should be. Sizes range from 1.5mm upwards. Any suggetsions?

    KItchen unit plinth height

I'm reorganising and adding to my kitchen floor cabinets. The "off the shelf" plinth height these days seems to be 150mm. However, my old units have legs that will only go down to 160mm. I'm replacing these legs with new B&Q ones so will have the same 150mm legs on all the units. When I set the...

    Sealing for Hob

I'm installing an ex display AEG 6800 2K hob in my kitchen. I've downloaded the manual from the AEG website, but need further information on the sealant required for sealing between the worktop and the hob. Is this a special AEG product that would have been provided with the original packaging...

Heat from oven on gas pipe

I've got a gas engineer coming to do something else this week so I'll run it past him and get him to divert the pipe if needed.

Heat from oven on gas pipe

I'm installing a second hand Bosch HBN 131250 electric oven in my kitchen. I'm housing it in a standard B&Q 600m under oven housing unit. Unfortunately I have now realised that when it is in position its rear ventilation slots will be directly in front of a copper gas pipe that runs along the...

    Mould removal

I've got rid of the lino and given the floor a good scrub with bleach. Seems to have done the trick. Lack of ventilation and air flow is the least of my worries in a 200 year old cottage. More worrying is that the mould only formed along the join of the old floor and new extension floor.

    Mould removal

I've discovered a lot of black mould between the concrete floor and lino in my kitchen. Obviously the lino will have to go, and I'll have to discover the cause of the problem, but what is the best product for removing the mould from the concrete.

    gas pipes and plaster

Thanks for the reply. I think I'll go the expanding foam route.

    gas pipes and plaster

Not sure where best to post this so please move if neccesary. How tightly should you plaster around gas pipes. I have a gas pipe coming through my back wall into the kitchen. The hole it comes through is bigger than the pipe and therefore there is a bit of a draft coming through. My solution...

Dylux Weathershield - how many coats

Eventually did 3 coats with the first thinned by 20%. Looked OK with 2 coats, but the third made it look even better. Now I'm just waiting for the scaffolding to be removed so I can see the full effect. :)
