    Moving toilet cistern

Hi So I'm prepping the bathroom ready for it being brought into the 21st century in the summer. When they installed the current toilet, they chopped into the window cill and squared it off. The cistern was then secured to the squared off section of the window cill. The new toilet will fit...

Indesit Washing machine shock absorber fixing cracked

Hi I have an Indesit IWD7145, that's suffering from a loud clicking from the bottom of the machine when spinning. I've found it's actually the body/frame (underside of machine where the shock absorbers fix to) that's cracked. When I press the metal around where the shock bolt fastens, I can...

Sealing joint between two pieces of stone under gate

Hi I have an old victorian terrace where there's a coal cellar running underneath the area between the front gate and the front wall of the house. The coal cellar is useful for storing random things in, but every time it rains water finds its way into the cellar. There's a seal joining the...

    Wrought iron gate catch/striker fixings

Hi I have a wrought iron garden gate where the striker plate is (was) held to the wall by bolts screwed into wooden dowelling. One of the striker plate fixings has rusted to the point it no longer has a thread, so the striker plate has worked loose and now fallen out of the wall. Do I have...

MDPE to copper - any brass options?

Hi Water supply pipe is 32mm mdpe (already layed) that I need to convert to 22mm copper (internal pipework). I'm not a pro. I'm guessing the normal way to convert would be to reduce to 25mm (with a plastic fitting) then to 22mm using a copper adaptor in the 25mm outlet followed by a 22mm...

    MDPE plasson fittings reusing

Hi Say I have a plasson mdpe fitting and need to remove it temporarily.. If I undo the locknut and remove (lift carefully) the grab ring off the pipe and then the fitting can I refit the same fitting in the same position later? Obviously I’d have to refit the grab ring in the same place on...

    Pipe bender marking pipe

So I have nothing to worry about then? :) It's just none of the videos on youtube show the pipe being marked like I've got.

    Pipe bender marking pipe

Hi I'm trying to learn the basics of how to use my new Hilmor GLM pipe bender. I'm not a plumber, just someone who'd like to learn how to do my own bends rather than using elbows. So I've done some test bends on some old bits of pipe, but I'm getting pitting (bits of silvery colour not copper)...

    PRVs random questions

Hi I'm looking for a new drop tight PRV, to go on 22mm vertical pipework for inlet pressure between 6 - 10 bar. Just wondering whether anyone has any good words to say about either the Reliance Water Control Compact 312 (looks to have been discontinued) or one of the PRVs from Altecni /...

    Getting 32mm MDPE to behave

The communication pipe from the main (running along the road) to my boundary wall and external stoptap is 25mm MDPE. The supply pipe from the boundary wall into my property is 32mm MDPE. Only when Morrison Utilities dug up the side of the road did they remember the communication pipe had been...

    Getting 32mm MDPE to behave

It's 25mm MDPE from the main to the boundary wall. I wanted to avoid converting to 25mm before the internal wall as it would mean having a fitting in the cavity.

    Getting 32mm MDPE to behave

Wow. Hadn't thought of that. :D The best I thought of is using a 32 to 25 coupler before the bend, then a 25mm wall plate adaptor (normally for outside taps) on the inside wall. That's only because I haven't seen any 32mm wall plates.

    Getting 32mm MDPE to behave

Hi A while ago the original water main (2" cast iron pipe) decided to spring a leak in cavity wall. The house has a full length cellar so rather than the supply pipe coming up vertically into the property, it runs under the front garden at a depth of 80cm just before it goes through the stone...

Going from 32mm MDPE to 22mm copper

Hi I'm looking for something to reduce a 32mm MDPE water supply pipe coming out of the wall in a cellar into a 22mm brass stopcock. I'm thinking I could use a combination of a MDPE pushfit to female BSP elbow like these. http://www.philmac.co.uk/products/details/?type=1&sub=13...

Yet another water supply pipe query...

Hi The very old 2" cast iron water pipe into my cellar has finally let go - spraying in the wall. So I'm in the middle of replacing it with 25mm MDPE. Check out the tasty iron pipe... IMG_20171114_155554 by lsx posted 26 Nov 2017 at 8:41 PM Where the water pipe used to come through the wall...
