    HKC SW-10270 ??

Hi, does anyone have any experience of the HKC SW-10270? My builder has spec'd this as part of a full refurb and wanted to check that this will do the job? Thanks.

    Towel Rads off Primary Circuit

Thanks for the response. 1. I am hoping I don't need them too much in the summer and the water will be on at a similar time to the towels usage . 2. Yup, will have TRVs 3. Presumably I can turn 1 TRV down and keep the other on.

    Towel Rads off Primary Circuit

Are there any disadvantages to having the towel rads off the primary circuit (so they are on whenever the boiler is on for HW or CH)? I have been suggested this as an option to duel fuel towel rads. Many thanks.

    Rad size v Window size

From an aesthetic point of view, should the window size be considered when spec’ing the rad? eg I have a window that is 1800mm where a 800mm K2 rad is spec’d and a 2400mm window with a 1000mm K2 rad. Will these look odd/out of proportion?

    New tado

I am looking getting a Tado for a new install (out of all the smart solutions this seems to be a decent compromise between cost & functionality). The system will be unvented with 3 'zones' (HW, UFH, Rads). What tado kit would I require? - Starter Kit - Bridge (connect to router) + Thermostat...

    Positioning Ceiling Lights

Are there any rules of thumb for positioning ceiling lights? i.e. I have been asked where I want my 2x ceiling pendants in a large master bedroom. Should the space be divided equally (third, third, third)? Or is there another rule of thumb? The same for spots, how close to walls, how much...

Is 66cm enough space for WC?

66cm is pretty narrow. 40cm for pan, 13cm each side. Does it have to go there? You could put WC where the basin is, basin where the towel rail is, and the towel rail above the 66cm space?

Radiator Tails - into Wall or Floor?

No probs. It is a whole house refurb so all walls are being plastered/skimmed/decorated anyway. I understand that the builder has already priced it in. Makes sense to go to floor tails for 1st Floor/carpeted rooms but I am inclined to keep wall tails for G/Floor where there are tiles to...

Radiator Tails - into Wall or Floor?

I will double check, but think that my spec allowed for rad tails from walls. Wanted to be sure that this was the best option.

Radiator Tails - into Wall or Floor?

Please can you clarify what you mean. I was intending to use Drayton TRVs. Most of my rads are going on external walls under the windows. Would they therefore be chased into the brick/plaster?

Radiator Tails - into Wall or Floor?

Has the norm changed? I seem to remember that the pipework used to come out from the floor, but more recently, the norm seems to be the wall? Which is better / preferred? (My contractor has recommended the floor as it is easier to access / service if there is an issue)

Kitchen: Fused Spurs v Switched 13A Sockets

Thanks, so ideally flush mounted socket in the wall behind an adjacent cabinet with a hole in the back for access?

Kitchen: Fused Spurs v Switched 13A Sockets

If you put socket in cabinet: Do you use surface mounted boxes on the inside of the cabinets? And have a hole for the plug to come through from the back?

    Valley tiles v Cut valley

Thanks. Are there any disadvantages of using GRP gulleys? Is this more labour intensive (and therefore expensive) than valley tiles?

Kitchen: Fused Spurs v Switched 13A Sockets

It was suggested to me that I could reduce the number of faceplates visible - which can make kitchen look cluttered - by using switched 13A sockets (within adjacent kitchen units) rather than fused spurs (where practical). e.g. for D/W, Fridge, Extractor Is this a good idea? Are there notable...

    Specify an Alarm

I am undergoing as house refurb, whilst we are redecorating/rewiring I am having an alarm installed. My builder has asked me to clarify the details. Do you have a preference for wired or wireless? ~ Are there any advantages of wireless in this scenario? Do you require remote monitoring? (i)...

    Valley tiles v Cut valley

In order to get our dormer to fit we have had to reduce the dormer roof pitch from 45deg to 37deg). The roofer is proposing a cut valley (as valley tiles won’t now work). I am expecting a cost variation for this; not sure how much would be expected. What are the additional costs (labour &...
