    Soak away..

Afternoon, I have a garden which has poor drainage, the plan was to dig a sample hole and see how far down I would need to go before the clay was no more. I assume its clay. I dig this hole, its 1mtrs ishy deep, and a spade wide. It was dry when I made it, then last night I filled it with...

Nige - Thanks. Agile - I think having newer rads fitted is more than a priority than decorating at the moment.

Changing Unfinned Rad to Finned Rad - Size issue

I guess its a case of measure, and cut down to size. I guess with a huge radiator, the bedroom will be pretty warm, pretty quick.... If so, £4.00 isn't a bad idea. Might have to go with 300mm or 400mm high rads instead of a narrower, 600mm high rad.

Changing Unfinned Rad to Finned Rad - Size issue

Its 2 pipes, both pipes are pictured. The far one is leaking at the valve. It drains well, I have drained it and cleaned the header tank out (inc sludge), then put in a bottle of Sentinel De-Scaler/Sludge remover. I also have 2 further bottles of De-Scaler to go in during summer for the heat...

Changing Unfinned Rad to Finned Rad - Size issue

We are getting there slowly. When we purchased the house, it had no rads in the lounge, hallway or bedroom 4 . We've had them fitted, the cladding off the dorma section of the house and insulation upgraded to 75mm. Next is flat roof insulation. In the short term, a fix is the rads...

Changing Unfinned Rad to Finned Rad - Size issue

No, not really. Never heard of the difference. Only recently had a "Nest" fitted.. previous to that we had no thermostat, just a timer. To go from No Trv, to a Trv is a step towards the future..

Changing Unfinned Rad to Finned Rad - Size issue

Old unfinned radiator, fed using 15mm copper pipes. The plan is to change to a finned radiators, the old one does not have a TRV therefore its time to upgrade and make the house more "efficient". For £100, I can pick up 3x rads, 3x TRVs etc. The plumber wants £200 to fit them, which for 3...

    Dorma Cladding

Hi all, Maybe the Marley is something to look forward too in the future. Priority 1 is to get some insulation into the Dorma walls, as the rear bedroom temperature drops over night more than those in the front. PVC can be fitted next week, and we already have a quote. One bedroom was...

PASS Uk can test it for about £23, you send the sample off and you have the test results within a few days. We had an asbestos 7m x 3m garage roof removed and disposed. Roof laid with marine ply (18mm) and 3 layers of felt, new fascia, new guttering laid for £1550.

    Dorma Cladding

Hi all, We are looking to change the cladding on the dorma part of the house. Its currently some form of T&G wood which has seen better days. The plan was to have the wood removed, insulation boards installed, waterproof membrane then PVC (White) cladding installed over the top. We have...

    Fluorescent Lights hunting/scrolling..

Thanks for the replies, thanks awarded. I was unsure, its one of them stumping things that you never see. I did suspect it was due to the cold, and not being enclosed etc.

    Fluorescent Lights hunting/scrolling..

Existing 4ft fluorescent fitting in the garage (an unheated garage) appear to be hunting/scrolling in appearance. They dont flicker, but just seems to scroll/roll (tumbling) inside. Sorry, unsure on technical term for it. A 240v at Live/Neutral on terminals, which i would have thought a loose...

    Needing more Electrical Updates

Wow, that Hager board is cheap. I had spotted a MK Sentry board in Screwfix which started idea. Even at £80 with Board+Tails etc, I would be £220 up towards paying the LABC to test.

    Needing more Electrical Updates

A massive bump to this thread, as no point starting a new one I guess. First-Time-Buyer is now Second-Time-Buyer, and the new house is in need of some electrical updates. The house is a 5 bedroom, or 4 bedroom with Study dorma bungalow. It has a 4-way board, 1 lighting circuit, 1 sockets...

Single Brick Garage - Exposed Roof Beams

Not our garage, were the buyers of the property. I suspect the end of the beams are coated in bitumen paint, and the new one is the beam that was recently replaced. Its an external treated beam so in its current state should last a long time. I go like the idea of the felt and cladding...
