    Patio awning

Thanks for your reply and suggestions. It does take quite an effort to wind in and as I am getting on in years it is a bit of a problem. I have tried it with my heavy duty SDS drill and it just does not move it.

    Patio awning

I have a patio awning which I would like to motorise. If this is not possible then I will consider buying a new one, however, it is fitted on a bungalow and would need to fix on the existing oak bearers. I have attached pictures of each end. If anyone can tell me what make it is I would...

    Stop using plastic

My local milkman now supplies milk in returnable glass bottles. Costs a little more but saves plastic. My wife and I (and the dog) used to have 3 2litre plastic containers per week, now - none. If 2 people can save 3 plastic containers a week how much waste plastic would it save if the...

    Access trap in carpeted floor

I am shortly having carpet fitted and in one small place I need to access underfloor occasionally. Is there any such thing as a premade trap that a piece of matching carpet can be inserted? I have asked the carpet suppliers but they cannot suggest anything. TIA

Reformat hard drive on dell computer

The reason for doing it is that computer is now unused and I have 2 programs which run on XP but not later, and it will cost several thousands to replace the software which is little used. I will post the error number tomorrow. Thanks for your interest.

Starting my Build without Condition Approval - Risk?

An interesting addition to this, a new bypass was constructed recently near me and just before completion Natural England insisted on "Bat Bridges" across the highway at a cost to the taxpayers of £300,000. Strange, I thought bats could fly.

    New Driving test

I see the new test is scrapping the 3 point turn and reversing around corner. This being replaced with driving INTO a parking space in a supermarket car park and reversing OUT. Surely this is the wrong way round. When reversing the front of the car must swing out, and in the narrow bays in the...

Multi fuel stove filling room with smoke....

Had a similar thing when I built a kitchen extension. We have an oil fired cooker/boiler which is open flued. The approved drawings showed an extraction fan in the kitchen. I had problems with the building inspector who insisted that the extraction fan must be fitted, I explained that a fan...

THE END OF SELF EMPLOYMENT BUGET 10%

Most self employed seem to forget that when the latest increase starts they will cease to pay class 2, so the increase is far less than it appears and in some cases will decrease. (self employed for over 30 years in case you think its sour grapes)
