    Damp under wooden floor.

Thanks for your advice. Firstly the property doesn't have a dpc between bricks. There is a tar paint on the bottom edge of the exterior of the building but it is thin black paint rather than a proper course. The surveyor confirmed that there is no dpc in the building. The bitumen snot is...

    Damp under wooden floor.

Right ive had a dig around some more. The "soil" doesn't really seem to be soil actually. I have poked it with a scredriver and it is very hard and chips off into bits. It has lots of stones in and is very sandy. Seems almost to be very compacted hardcore rather than a concrete slab or soil...

    Damp under wooden floor.

No there is no sign of slate. The whole building has no damp proof course, but the previous owners had a injection dpc added to the exterior walls about 15 years ago. The air bricks a clear, although there is only one at the rear of the property (where the photos were taken) and two at the...

    Damp under wooden floor.

Hi, I live in a house built in 1911. I moved in just over a year ago and the previous owners had carpeted the downstairs living room and dining room with pretty hideous old carpet! I was thinking to go back to the original floor boards which look to be in relatively good condition. I've taken...

Removing Bayonet fitting to fit gas hob.

Brilliant thanks for the reply. The position of the hob will be in the same space where the bayonet is fitted so it wont be covered by a unit. My kitchen is about 10 m3, but it has no door on the kitchen. It leads out to a hall way which has an large opening window. I also have a high flow...

Removing Bayonet fitting to fit gas hob.

Hi all. I am renovating my kitchen in my flat. I currently have a standalone gas cooker connected to a bayonet fitting. I would like to get this bayonet removed so I can fit a built in hob and electric oven. My question is, as certified trademen, how would you like to tackle this job...

Moving a washing machine, need a trap?

Hi, I am renovating my kitchen and changing the layout so it's more user friendly. One of the things I want to do is to move the washing machine from it's current position, next to the sink, to the other end of the room. Currently the machines waste is plumbed with a washing machine waste...

Drilling through plasterboard without elongating the hole

I am replacing my kitchen units this weekend. One wall is plaster board on wooden batons so no problem with fixing the cabinets to the batons. But one wall is plaster board dot and dabbed onto solid concrete I think. That wall is a partition wall to the next door neighbor - its a ground...

    Options for increasing flow rate/pressure

Thanks for the reply. There possible is enough room to have a similar sized tank further down the roof space and that would probably be the best solution. I was just looking at pumps and notice this one seems just the kind of thing thats needed...

    Options for increasing flow rate/pressure

Hi, My gf's mum has just had a new bathroom installed. The new bathroom has a new mixer tap on the sink and mixer tap/shower head on the bath. The house is quite old (1890's) and the bathroom room is located on the first floor, in what could be considered the roof of the property. They...

Replacing pollen filter on peugeot 307 2.0 hdi

There may be some clips a bit like the "screw 90 degress and lift" ones you get on the fuse covers in cars. Otherwise the front edge of the plastic may curl over the lip at the front (front is front of car) and hook under the metal edge. Best bet is to try and lift the plastic carefully and...

REPLACE FUEL FILTER ON NISSAN MICRA 99' 1.0l

No, its just very stiff! When I did my girlfriends, it took a lot of twisting of the hoses and puling and swearing! keep at it! Be prepared for a nice spray of fuel as well, if you haven't unpressurized the fuel lines first, by running the car with the fuel fuse out.

    tyres

Depends really, but I personally would like my tyres to last 20,000 miles/2yrs at least, if not a lot more thinking about it! I think you could easily write a book on whats best to go for though regarding high priced vs budget tyres and the economic merits, so its anyones guess...

I would always put them on the front. When braking most of the weight is on the front two wheels.

    Pitted mosaic tiles and grouting

When I did my mums bathroom with these they did indeed fill with grout, but it doesn't detract from the look at all. I wouldn't like to have to pick the grout out of the holes!!

    Excessive Oil Consumption ??

I think you are checking the oil at the wrong time and getting confused. You should check the oil with the car on a flat level surface when the engine has not been run for at least 30 minutes. So check the oil before the engine has been running for the best reading. ANY running of the...
