a mate has had the gas fitter round to look his gas fire,the fitter has seen a ceiling fan in the room and told my mate he has to have his fire isolated,or (this is the part i can't understand)have an isolation switch fitted to the fan? i can't think why an isolation switch would make it safer...

downlighters in an upstairs room with loft insulation above, i know i can't put the insulation back over the lights due to heat, and i can't find anything commercialy available that will allow the heat to escape through the insulation.so what is the answer.
