a mate is fitting a shower to a house he has just bought 8.5kw.and has noticed he has 2 main fuses where it comes into the house. one on the live and one on the neutral and they look like rewireable,it also says 30a on the holders is this ok? or can he have them uprated

if they have actually got 30A wire in they won't be lasting long with the new shower.

also neutral fusing is frowned opon nowadays (i'm not sure why, i belive its because it can leave an appliace unpowered but still live), you really should speak to the DNO about getting this sorted.

30A is in need of upgrading, but it might hold for a supprising amount of time, the higher than normal fusing factor, coupled with diversity, coupled with showers not in use for that much time means the time between blowing it is likely to be measured in months rather than days tbh

But like the DP fusing, you should contact the DNO and have it upgraded as plug says (and if you have TT earth, ask if they'll PME you), are you actually sure its DP fusing?, its not uncommon to have the neutral one replaced with a solid link
