    New bathroom vanity unit

My current project is refurbishing our bathroom. The current pedestal sink is about 450mm deep and I want to replace this with a vanity unit and countertop sink. Trouble is the majority of the vanity units are only around 390mm deep if that. I have a 380mm countertop basin so reckon I need...

    Countertop Basin install

Hi, Not sure this is the correct forum, I'd appreciate a bit of advice. I'm getting the bathroom redone (I'm buying the bits and someone is fitting it for me) and have bought a countertop basin. It is 38cm diameter, what depth countertop would I need? (more than 38cm obviously :) ) I'm having...

    Heavy Duty Extension Lead

I need an extension lead to run my steam cleaner which is rated around 2kw. I tried two of the extension leads I already own, one tripped out and the other flymo one I use for the mower (without a cutout) got very hot very quickly. I thought the Masterplug reels they have at Screwfix would be...

Kitchen units on top of laminate?

I'm looking at replacing my 35yr old kitchen with a 2nd hand one which is kindly being given to me. Do I fit the laminate flooring first, and then put the kitchen units on top of it. Or fit the kitchen units first onto bare floorboards and then lay he laminate around the units? Thanks

Wanted - Old BT line filter

Hi, If anybody comes across, or knows where I can find an old BT Filter Unit 15A, let me know as I need one. These are the sort of things that get ripped out and thrown away, so maybe someone has come across one in DIY phone line project. Thanks

    Shed treatment

Well a couple of hours with the Jetwasher and it's pretty much all stripped back to bare wood ready to be treated. Much better doing it that way, although it did raise the grain a bit. Wickes own brand look about half the price of B&Q so going to get and order some of that.

    Shed treatment

Thanks John, it doesn't have gutters, although I had thought of adding them. It's a petrol powered jetwash I've got and rather noisy so best leave it a bit later in the day before annoying the neighbours again. Looks like the Cuprinol Ducksback is just a paint, I will need to get some...

    Shed treatment

Yeah I gave it a blast with the jetwash yesterday and it's stripped a lot of the old paint off. Let it dry overnight and there's still some patches of old paint/preservative. It's going to be a pita trying to rub down by hand a shed that size, I just tried a small part and 80 grit sandpaper...

    Shed treatment

Hi, I have a 16ft x 10ft shed which is in need of some tlc. It was installed around 10yrs ago and clearly had some sort of resin/oil protection along with a coat of paint. Since then it hasn't been touched and the paint has worn off. I scrubbed it with fungicide solution to get the "green" off...

To cove or not to cove

Don't know if it's in or out, but we have it in the lounge of our 1920's semi with 8ft ceilings and it adds a nice classy touch. My stepmom has it in her modern house, doesn't have the same classic look but still makes the room look "finished" in my opinion. We don't have it in all the...

    Curtain Color schemes

    White stuff behind wallpaper

Distemper is vapor permeable, it may well be there for a reason. Might be worth a read here http://climatechangeblog.historic-scotland.gov.uk/2013/09/traditional-buildings-are-cool/ and here http://www.heritage-house.org/managing-damp-in-old-buildings.html A "traditional" building...

    Extra long pin grippers

Just a thought, would packing strips under the grippers help?

    Extra long pin grippers

I have some 15mm 65oz wool felt underlay, I know I need to make sure the pins on the carpet grippers are long enough, trouble is the longest I found are only suitable for 12mm underlay. Anybody know where I can get carpet grippers with pins long enough for this underlay?

    Loft boarding

About 2 months ago I boarded a 12ft square area of my loft with OSB board. I checked on it today and noticed some of the boards have distorted, I lifted one of the boards and found it was wet and mouldy underneath. The boards were fixed directly onto the ceiling joists, in between the joists...

    Compact Dehumidifier

Hi I need a compact wall mounted dehumidifier to put in an understairs cupboard/pantry area, approx 6ftx6ft square. I have limited space so ideally something tall and narrow rather than short and wide. Something like this would be good...

    Cupped Door Frames

It's all been plastered in, I can't get to the wedges. I don't think there were many though. I thought about drilling and putting more screws in to pull it straight, problem is the wall is only 80mm cinder block. There really isn't much to drive the screws into. I did wonder if it was...
