How to move a dry line box

Hello, I recently had my garage converted, with one of the new rooms being a utility room which has a fan. I wish I had spent more time discussing with the electrician where he was going to put the switch for the fan, because he ended up putting it in quite an inconvenient place - it is quite...

    Toilet with side exit?

Hello We are having our integrated garage converted into rooms, with one of the rooms being a toilet. The toilet room has one external wall, however the wall that we want the toilet itself backing onto is an internal wall. The plumber has just told us that we will need to have a toilet that...

    Wiring of light switch

Hi My hallway has a 4 switch light switch, as shown in the photographs. The switch on the left controls a downstairs light that can also be turned on/off from upstairs. The next switch along controls an upstairs light which can also be turned on/off from upstairs. The next switch along...

Ducting in loft space for bathroom shower

Hello, I've got an Xpelair C4R in my bathroom ceiling, which vents to the outside world via a vented roof tile and some 100mm diameter flexible ducting. The problem is, the ducting is so flexible that it presses on the flaps on the top side of the fan and prevent them from opening - I am...

    Window Hinges

Thanks for the reply - do the numbers 8 and 14 signify anything? The hinge seems to be 12" long and 17mm wide, not measured the height yet. Thanks, Ackoman

    Window Hinges

Hello I need to replace the hinges on a side opening uPVC window - the current hinge says "Cotswold 08 14 SS" on it - can someone please let me know if I need to find an exact same hinge, or would another manufacturer do? I don't want to have to drill new holes and so would like to get one the...

water in ducting from shower extractor fan

What if the vent is in the roof, rather than in the soffit board? Another thread suggested that venting through the soffit boards is potentially problematic due to the wet air simply being blown back into the loft.

    Flue material

Ok, I hear what you guys are saying. The fan does have flaps which are supposed to close it when it's not running, but I do take your point. Maybe back to the original plan of having a roofer fit an extraction tile.....

    Flue material

How will it do that? The bottom section of flue will not be connected to bathroom shower vent, only the top section - that's why I want to move that collar. I was also thinking about capping off the bottom section. And, it is already capped off at the bottom end i.e. in the house.

    Flue material

Do you think it is safe/possible for me to slide the collar (that is being held by the two jubilee clips) down so that I can get access to the upper section of the flue? The flue is currently unused - the boiler that it was connected to is long gone.

    Flue material

Hello Is it possible to tell from these pictures what material my flue is made from? https://imgur.com/gallery/LAjt6 The house was built in 1971 if that helps. Many thanks, Ackoman

    Cavity wall insulation

Hello, I've been in my house for 6 months and now it is getting cold outside I am beginning to wonder how well the cavity wall and loft insulation that the previous owners had put in is doing its job. Some of the rooms, particularly upstairs, do not seem to retain their heat for very long. My...
