    New Fences

Thanks for the replies. Im thinking a foot gravel board, 5 foot fence and a foot or two foot trellis. Maybe a foot trellis will be enough if Im going to grow a prickly Rose on it. Will two foot be too much? As long as the rose is manageable should be ok.

    New Fences

Im installing a 6ft fence with trellis on top. I believe the correct way is to use fence posts that are the correct height to install the trellis. Howvever as the house backs onto a park would it be better to buy shorter posts and affix the trellis using wooden battens, so it will not support...

    Double glazing options

Another option is handles, which are plain white, chrome (not so plain) or period handle in a black finish. These are not cheap by a long way and the period fetaures look nice but would black suit a 1920s house or just look wrong? Ive sen it in a georgian property an did look different.

    Double glazing options

Im having new windows fitted, the front bays will have leaded tops and the rears were to be clear, however Ive decided to have these lead at the top too. Dont think it would be too much in terms of looks? Another option is laminated glass, but it works out at £640 for french doors and the...

    Low E glass

Cheers is it standard or do I need to request it specifically? Choice of a rated which costs alot more.

    Dble Glazing handles

Indeed I thought they looked good too. Howver I went to view a customer who had georgian windows fitted to a georgian period property, but didnt opt for the stays though, apparently he felt that they would look a bit wrong when the window was open as they stay fixed to the window I believe...

    New Double Glazing options

Thanks for the advice, not sure if its the whole frame or not, probably just the glass. Yes I'll enquire about the laminate on one side of the panes. Re: the chrome handles, I was thinking that in my mind too, they also do black period ones that are curved and a rougher look, the white ones...

    Dble Glazing handles

Im going to ask the guy for a sample of each, basically the chrome is the same design as the black period, but this one is rough as opposed to the smooth chrome finish. Checked the ironmongers but decided to stick with the glazing comapny. Its the Storm Evolution range, take a look at their...

    New Double Glazing options

Im havin new windows put in with C rated glass as standard. Is it worth the extra cost to have the A rated glass? Also theres an option of laminated glass which isnt cheap but more secure against break ins. Can I not just buy bomb proof film and apply? Also would the weight be too much for...

    Solid wood flooring

Ok cheers, maybe engineered is the way to go then! Is it best to remove the old flooring or place the new boards on top. In both cases what will stop the draughts? Does the flooring interlock like the laminate stuff?

    Solid wood flooring

I was going to cover the boards with wood flooring? I was going to go somewhere like a solid wood company on the net.

    Solid wood flooring

I am considering new flooring. The boards are pine I believe but have suffered from alot of cuts etc from plumbers in the past. Also a few planks have bowed completely due to a recent leak. Is it worth having them sand and the dodgy ones replaced or renew with oak flooring? If its the latter...

    New coving

Its got too many cracks in it, tried digging the cracs out and filling etc, but they keep coming back. The coving gives it a more finished effect I think, if thats how the house was built I think itd be a shame to remove it all!

    New coving

Hi Mate, thanks for your reply. Yes I think I'll keep with the original design. I have a coving guy who makes up to original design if I supply him with an old piece. As I mentined the downstairs ceilings need replaing so will lose the coving but will have him take a piece to recreate the...

    New coving

I need to replace my original coving, as Im replacing plaster & lathe ceilings which are seriously cracked. I live in a 1930s house & the coving is a simple curve design, for some reason its downstairs only in all the houses. A neighbour has recently refurbished their house and put in coving...

    Dble Glazing handles

Basically its like a foil, its a company called Evolution. Not sure what you mean by woodgrain beads though. They do use a woodgrain foil which I've seen in the flesh in a Georgian property and does look very nice, takes off the shine that you usually get with standard UPVC.
