    Evolution Circular Saw

Hi All. Many thanks for the replies. I took the plunge with the evolution. Seems like a reasonable quality circular saw, however the track is a bit limited. Fortunately it is compatible with most other brands. And yes I have a chop saw, but I have been asked to build a fairly odd shaped deck...

Can anyone help me understand this light switch wiring?

Hi All Hoping someone can help. We have a 3 gang switch in our utility room, and after 3 years I still don't know what 2 of the switches do. I had assumed they were dead/old lights, however I have just taken the switch off as I am looking to add an additional light to the room, and found some...

    Evolution Circular Saw

Thanks for the reply. All good things to consider. Any alternative recommendations given I have a budget of about 100 quid?

    Evolution Circular Saw

Hi All Does anyone have any experience with Evolution Circular saws? I am particularly interested in their combined circular/track saw (R185CCSX for example). Got a few jobs coming up where I will probably need a saw (worktops, decking etc) and currently don't have one. Any input appreciated...

    Door advice

Hi Thanks for the reply If I want to use the 762 door without trimming I will have to use 16mm timber, which I am assuming is a bit thin. Is using 21mm sensible? I can get away with just taking a few mm off the door then. Cheers

    Door advice

Hi All Hope someone can help I have built a stud wall which had fairly limited space for the door opening due to various units/obstacles. The door is for a new downstairs toilet, and will be non standard shape - one of the corners is lobbed off due to the stairs. I was hoping to use a...

    Under unit lighting

Hi all Just a final note from me (The OP). I feel my knowledge has been expanded, although the situation regarding power supplies (hope that's suitable?!?) Is a little confusing. At the very least I now have an outline plan. Thank you to all who have helped, and I apologise for opening up a...

    Under unit lighting

There is not really anywhere else for them to go. On top of the wall units is the only place where we can hide them, unless they go inside the units which the Boss won't allow. I can get something to enclose them. Good thought as it does get pretty grim. RGBW had been considered, but I think...

    Under unit lighting

Hi Yes, thats the stuff I am looking at. Will do some homework and read the other post. Much appreciated!

    Under unit lighting

Thanks for the reply. My feeling was that 240v would be better. One of the suggestions I have been given is junction box on top of unit, with flex run behind the wall unit down to 240v led strip lighting. Does that sound reasonable?

    Under unit lighting

Hi All Just in the process of having a new kitchen installed. The plan is to have under unit lighting operated from a switch, however I have a couple of questions RE installation. To date, all of the lighting circuit is in, and provision has been made for 240v in each corner of the room to...

    Roof water disposal

I was given no choice but to build a soakaway for my single story extension. Joining the sewer would have required a run of 0.4m. The soakaway required a run of 20m, which involved digging up 2 concrete paths, and hand shovelling a 1.5 x 1.5 x 1.5m hole in the middle of the lawn. The powers...

    Underfloor heating insulation

Thanks for the reply. Perhaps I have been misinformed, but I thought that the aim was to heat the screed that you put over the top, not the actual concrete foundation slab? I have not seen any system where the pipes are laid directly onto the slab, they always have some form of insulation under...

    Underfloor heating insulation

Hi All Hopefully a nice straight forward question. Note I am a DIY-er! I am in the process of having a kitchen extension built and have left 80mm for installing an underfloor heating system. I understand that often the 100mm celotex floor insulation as required by building regs is left above...

Tying into an external chimney breast

Hi All I am currently looking at building a single story extension at the rear of my property. On the line where i would ideally like to tie in one of the walls, there is an external chimney. I cant go past this line as there is a doorway we want to keep, so my only alternative would be to...

    Parquet flooring advice

Hi Nige Unfortunately not. We have pulled out all of the units etc. In most places they have put the floor underneath, but we need to keep it there as it is now visible. However, on each side of the chimney it looks like they cut corners and just glued some blocks down roughly by taking the...

    Parquet flooring advice

Hi All I am looking to patch up an edge of parquet flooring, and need some help. You can see the problem in the picture. Basically i need to get this small area to match up as closely as possible to the rest of the floor (doesn't have to be perfect as in the medium term we will be getting the...

    Texture ceiling options

Hi Thanks for the reply. I have started peeling more off, and I wouldn't describe it as easy peel. Lots of work with a scraper and water spray. Underneath seems to be solid platerboard - although its very smooth (if that makes sense) - almost shiny. I have not found any joints yet under the...

    Texture ceiling options

Hi All The "Boss" would like the texture ceiling in our living room removed - and for once I agree with her. It appears to be a textured paper stuck onto plasterboard. I have done some investigating, and it appears that the ceiling has already been boarded over twice - on top of a lathe and...

    Tiling advice

Hi Vinn Thanks for the reply. If i don't use a bath seal, how can i fill in the gap and make it watertight? It would need to be a huge bead of silicon as the wall is not straight so in some areas the gap in huge.
