if I'm removing old plaster, would it not be better to just re-plaster it considering they are only two small walls? How long does wet plaster normally take to dry?

    Drywall vs Plaster in Bathroom

I dont think dot and dab on to old plaster would be adequate because as you say it may not support weight of tiles. If I batten the walls and fix boards to battens it will reduce the size of the room but possibly still an option i suppose.

    Drywall vs Plaster in Bathroom

Hi, I have a bathroom in a 1940s terraced property (approx 2.5 x 2.5 meters) which needs tiling. However the tiler has advised the plaster on two brick walls (one is party wall and the other is rear external wall with a window) should be removed because its loose and should be redone with dot...

Hi, I have some treated timber for a picket fence to use for the rails and a bumch of salvaged roofing battens for the pales. The battens are very dirty full or grime and I wanted to know how I can clean them before I apply some kind of seal on them. They appear to be the splintered type so...

Nails or Screws for Picket Fence

A quick question, I've seen some picket fences where the screws/nails on each pale are offset at an angle instead of parallel to each other (see sketch 1 in attached pic) - what's the reason for positioning the screws in this manner. Is it to prevent the rail from splitting if the screws are too...

I have some timber windows and doors to paint but I'm a bit confused between wood treatment, wood stains and wood paint. Some of the windows already appear to have some type of a dark oak gloss paint which is peeling away in certain areas. Others look like they have just a stain. I'm I ok to...

Nails or Screws for Picket Fence

Hi, I'm building 1.5m high picket fence in my backyard. For the rails I'm using some 1 3/4" x 3" treated timber. These slot into concrete posts. For the pales I've salvaged some 1" x 1 1/2" roofing battens from a skip (I think they are roofing battens) Should I use nails or screws to fasten...

    How to re grout tiles

I tried to re grout some tiles so I scraped of some of the old grout using a screw driver. Unknown to me the new grout I used was past it's shelf life so its ended up drying like chalk. I've tried to remove this grout but it's a real pain. I can't seem to get rid of the residue from this...

Water seeping through bath shower mixer tap to under the bath

Theres nothing on the instructions about applying silicone? I's say is a flawed design. The plinth shouldn't be a separate removable part, its should be one single piece which is part of the main body of the tap. No water flows through around the side of the plinth, because the washer beneath it...
