We are just about to have a new Worcester Bosch 40CDi installed, I have already purchased it for the Plumber and it weighs in at 57Kg! I am just about to prepare the new wall ready for it, it is a Durox insulation wall and I was going to don 'n' dab plasterboard and them apply a 3mm plaser...

Kitchen Ventilation - Outside or recirculate

I've cut a small hole in the ceiling where it will have to be removed to install a RSJ. Joists run wrong way for me. They run towards the nearest outside wall which sounds ideal apart from the fact that I have a conservatory on that wall! Easiest (But not really best) solution is to run...

Kitchen Ventilation - Outside or recirculate

Not trying to cut corners, however Builder has removed some of the outside bricks in preperation to removing wall and said it looks as if the joists run a 90 degrees to what I expected. Therefore wouldn't be able to run ducting in roof space to outside wall. I am just examinining options ready.

As part of our new extension we are installing an island extractor fan in the enlarged kitchen. Do we have to extract to outside to meet Building Regulations ventilation requirements or is a recirculating unit ok?

Strike plates - to protect pipes in floor

I am sure I have seen some 'strike plates' on the internet before. They are fitted flush over copper pipes where they are notched into joists to stop anyone accidentally knocking a nail or screw into the pipes. Can't find them anywhere, suggestions anyone? (Or am I imagining it  )

How to achieve a Shiny Gloss finish on MDF/Plywood

Thanks for the tips. The end panels will probably be double thickness (approx 36mm), I may be able to cheat a little by gluing a piece of MDF or Ply on the end of the piece which will give me a good square end as well as an easier bit to paint. Don't need to do it for a month or so yet so...

How to achieve a Shiny Gloss finish on MDF/Plywood

We have purchased a new kitchen with Gloss Black doors. The end panels available to finish the cabinets were extremely expensive, so instead we are going to use either 18mm MDF or Plywood to make end fascia panels and cover them in matching tiles. This will leave the exposed edge of the...

    Security light ideas wanted

I am tempted to use low wattage or economy bulbs in some std fittings down the side and by the front door on a dusk/dawn sensor. Then put independant 150w std PIR flood on front, 150w std PIR flood on side pointing down, then 300w hi-low flood on back. All with seperate fused spur's so they...

    Security light ideas wanted

How bright are they when dimmed? - suitable for front drive without being too intrusive to neighbours? (What wattage did you go for?) I had a quick look at them in B&Q and the PIR doesn't go down far enough for use down the side of the house, there is only a 1.2m gap so I need to face the PIR...

New Kitchen - Waste pipe advice

I appreciate the comments, not exactly pretty having pipes through the outside wall though...... But as I am installing integrated appliances it may be by far the simplest answer! Once the existing kitchen it out I will have a good look and see what seems the best option. We have never...

Waste stack runs up corner of WC Room and shower room above. Toilets have been purposely been put on wall next to soil stack (Max 500mm away from stack with 1 x 90 degree bend) Shower is on inside wall, however the floor joists run in the right direction to allow me to run betwen them to...
