Thanks guys. Ill take a photo of the fan when I next go round there (hopefully today) Im looking at condensation traps, but have nowehere for the overflow pipe to go. (Im not comfortable drilling holes by the roof line). So the hard duct should look like the below? I reckon the vertical bit...

    Toilet leaking!

Hi, My tenant has said that sometimes (about once a month) when he flushes the toilet the water level remains high in the bowl. So, obviously a blockage. (He said that it may be because his young son uses too much toilet paper). So he plunges the toilet with a toilet brush, and water escapes...

Water collecting in duct pipe from extractor fan in bathroom

Hi all, I discovered that water was collecting in the duct piping from the bathroom extractor fan to the roof. I thought a temporary bodge would be to pierce it a couple of times and bleed the water out. (Hence the duct tape!) and to insulate it with some old duvet covers. Obviously not a...

How to remove silicate paint from surfaces?

Great, thanks guys. Even though its silicate-based, does that mean its water based? (ie: could I use very hot water as per @PJ Carpentry says?). Its certainly not oil based.

How to remove silicate paint from surfaces?

Hi all, Ive got silicate masonry paint on slate window sills and metal roof. How best to remove it? Will it come off with water and a lot of scrubbing with wire wool maybe? Or a blade? Perhaps something else? Its in really awkward places and Ill be on a ladder :cautious: Thanks

ARGH! Sorry guys, I completely forgot I posted this! :D To answer your questions: Do you know if there Is there enough water in the well to sustain a high pressure flow in sufficiant volume I plumbed it and the water goes down about 11 metres. Is that enough do you think? Do you know where...

    Extracting water from a well

Hi all. I have a well in the garden that Id like to use the water for the garden. The water surface is about 3m under ground level. (Sometimes Ive seen it 5m below ground level). I need to get a submersible pump, but not sure what one to get that will give me a decent pressure for the hose. I...

Haha, yes, perhaps my lens need a good clean too! I did do the previous decorating. I wouldnt have done any prepping. So a bodge job! However, this time Id like to do a proper job of it.

    Paint keeps cracking

I did repaint those walls. Probably about 7 years ago. It would have been a slap-dash job (I had no idea what I was doing. I still dont! Evidently!). But they havnt peeled before, until now. This is one problem patch. Top corner of wall. The wall with the painting on is party wall, the other...

    Paint keeps cracking

The property is a cottage. I think theyre lime plastered, but theyve had years and years of coats of paint on top. Probably lead paint and all sorts. The walls are cold and prone to mold. The problem is localised. Ill take some photos to give you context.

Yes, I tried to take photos of the peeling paint, but my phone's camera is so rubbish. Ill take some photos this morning and upload them here. No, its not the Eclipse paint. The paint Im using is the Dulux Calico.

    Stain keeps showing through paint!

Its the cover stain. It seems to have a very slight orange/yellow tinge to it which - unfortunately - makes it look like the wall has a damp issue! :(

Thanks guys. Ill take a photo of the paint Im using and see what you think. It probably is cheap rubbish.

    Stain keeps showing through paint!

Hi all, Ive had a little bit of stain on a wall (caused by a little bit of damp). I used this to cover over it: https://www.zinsseruk.com/product/cover-stain/ . I also used it on anything that even resembled a blemish or stain on the other walls (scuffs really. NOT damp!). I then painted over...

    Blocked basin sink

Morning all! The sink is now draining freely. But Im stuck with no plug. It looks like the metal has corroded and split. I presume if I get an identical plug, Ill need to take the trap out (which I dont trust myself doing. Its a bit fiddly and awkwardly small space). Is there a simple push/pull...
