Hi guys. When i need to use dust extraction with my tools i currently use a henry. I find it performs and performs and performs, ive sucked up piles of bricks dust, wet mortar, all sorts, and it never fails, all i have to do is change the bag. Does anybody have any experience with proper dust...

Best tool for cutting concrete blocks?

Hi guys. As per the title really. I used to use an angle grinder with a masonry blade but it was slow and dusty. I then purchased a cut off saw with a 305mm blade. Goes through 100mm blocks in one pass so i was cutting in about a 3rd of the time as i was with the grinder, however i find it...

No lintel on outer skin of wall?

Morning all. Just a question for my own knowledge really. My house is 11 inch cavity walls. The inner skin has concrete lintels above the openings. The outer skin however only has a soldier course bridging the cavity. Shouldnt there be some sort of support holding the outer skin up above the...

Please help! Joists not long enough to rest on wall plate

Hi guys, to get back to you one by one... Its not that they are too short per se, it hard to explain, the higher i raise them naturally the shorter they become because of the angle of the roof, the very tips of the joist (where i have cut them to match the angle of the roof) are literally just...

Please help! Joists not long enough to rest on wall plate

Morning all. I have dropped a real clanger here that could prove to be quite a costly mistake. In my loft I have already installed new 200x47mm joists to take a new floor (just for storage). These joists run parallel and in between the original ceiling joists. They rest on the wall plate at...

Best way to fix door lining to thin aerated block wall?

I did a test yesterday, drilled a hole in the block, put a screw in and the block just split in half. I think im going to abandon the idea of aerated blocks, ill try and cut down some conctrete blocks I have lying around. Failing that ill just wait until this is all over. Its only the cupboard...

Best way to fix door lining to thin aerated block wall?

Its hard to explain. Imagine youre standing infront of the doorway. To the left is a concrete block wall (its the wall that creates the cupboard under the stairs, so it tapers down with the stairs) that the liner was fixed to. To the right, the other side of the liner, was 100mm of 75mm thick...

Best way to fix door lining to thin aerated block wall?

Thats what i i was afraid of . Liner is 131mm, will cut it down to width though so it can be anything i make it. The other side of the door liner is concrete block, i just couldnt get any in 75mm atm.

1/4" dewalt or 1/2" triton router?

Sorry for the late reply ive been busy on the job. I decided to bite the bullet and go for both routers, I think ill mainly be using the 1/4", and i like the idea of the dewalt and being able to walk around and use it away from plug sockets (cant stand cables). The triton will be used for bigger...

Best way to fix door lining to thin aerated block wall?

Afternoon all. I have to fix a door lining, on one side the wall will be a 75mm thick aerated block wall (couldnt get solid bricks or dense concrete blocks). Will normal rawl plugs be suitable or will they split the block? They dont seem very durable and break easily, plus thinner than normal...

Need to replace a brick under a lintel. What brick should i use?

Hi guys. Took a door lining out yesterday, its a load bearing wall so has a lintel above it, however the nail from the lining ripped the brick apart that the lintel is resting on. Its only a half brick. Can anybody recommend what type of brick i should replace this with? The current bricks are...

1/4" dewalt or 1/2" triton router?

Hi guys. I need to buy a router, im going to need it for door hinge/lock mortises, kitchen worktops and creating tongue and groove out of 47mm thick c16 timber. I originally wanted a 1/4" dewalt that runs off my 18v xr batteries for convenience, and the light weight for creating door hinge...

How to finish gap between block paving and wall?

Hey guys. I know this isnt a landscaping board, but being in the garden i figure its pretty close lol. My block paved drive doesnt go right up to the wall that seperates my property and next door, instead there is a slight gap where the edge pavers have been cemented (please see pic attached)...

    Built using too much plasticiser

Hi guys. Ive built an internal block wall (non load bearing), im only 4 blocks high at the moment however i i realised ive used way too much plasticiser when i built it. The instructions said 85ml per 25kg of cement. I remember using 85ml per 25kg of sand/cement mix so about 10 times what the...
