Toilet fault - overflowing on filling

Hi all, I have this problem with one of our toilets, it overflows for a good 10-20sec after each fill. The Toilet is a Twyford with “Flush Wise” mechanism. The problem seems to be with the filling mechanism on the right. However raising the float manually doesn’t seem to stop the water flow...

    7ft fluorescent tubes?

Had a mate ask me today where he can get replacement 7ft tubes. I’d never heard of 7ft ones but he’s adamant his are 7ft. I know you used to be able to get 8ft T12 tubes, but I thought the longest was 6ft now? Any ideas?

Isn’t the Zinsser One Coat supposed to be good for exterior woodwork?

About to paint front door - quick query

Did you let the paint dry before removing it? I usually take it off when still wet, and reapply if doing another coat. But yes, used green frog tape.

About to paint front door - quick query

Managed to get the first coat of top coat on today, started about 10.30am. Was probably a bit cold (~5C) but by 12ish it was 9C. Was dry enough to put the metalwork back on by about 3ish, but will definitely need a light rub down and another coat (will probs be Saturday at the earliest now)...

About to paint front door - quick query

I have cleaned and keyed the metal front door and surrounding wooden frame, ready for masking and priming. My father in law has just given it a final rub over, I believe he used IPA (not the beer, Isopropyl alcohol) instead of meths - will this be a problem? Also, I’m priming it with Zinsser...

How long before putting tape on new satinwood?

Hi all, have just gone over my old yellowed gloss skirting boards with 123 primer, am planning to leave it a few hours then do it with Armstead Trade Quick Dry Satinwood, which should (hopefully) be an improvement. I need to do the walls too, with emulsion. I’ll need to mask up the skirting...

    Repairing caulk around door frame

Am in the process of preparing a bathroom for painting, am doing the gloss work first (today hopefully!) and the walls tomorrow. How do I repair the cracked caulk around the door frame etc? Is it just a case of sanding it down, or does it need to be scraped out and replaced? See photos...

    Repainting (composite) front door

Oh, and this is the only name I can see anywhere on the door, but not sure if it’s just the multi lock system?

    Repainting (composite) front door

Just been speaking with a neighbour, and he has painted his light grey using dulux weathershield. He says it seems to have taken to the plastic ok. Guess there’s no way to tell but wait and see. Looks nice though. Hmmmm

    Repainting (composite) front door

Experience really is everything! You’re right On (even) closer inspection, at appears to be textured pvc, possible designed to look like wood almost? The House came, as all new builds do, with a 2yr warranty. But that has expired now . So, it’s specialist paint for that part then. Hmmmm

    Repainting (composite) front door

Thanks for replying, Looking at it closely, I believe the yellow parts are wood, as is the frame etc. Does that change things?

best paint for going over internal gloss

Yup, solvent based = oil based Would the same process mentioned above be recommended for repainting existing gloss skirting boards/door surrounds in a family bathroom? Would daily showers cause a problem for water-based gloss/satin?). Thanks

    Repainting (composite) front door

Hi all, 3 year old house, the front door is a metal composite (I believe) and the sun has started to yellow parts of it (see photo). I would like to repaint it, but keep it white. What suggestions do people have regarding type of paint to use please? Does it need to be sanded down/prepared...

Wallpaper newbie - hanging on emulsion

Hi all, House is only 2 yrs old, and has crown trade matt white emulsion on every wall! So I've been ordered to hang some wallpaper on "feature walls", starting with the kid's bedroom. This morning, have given the wall a good going over with some sugar soap spray and a damp cloth...

Upgraded bathroom extractor, still misting up problems

Not at present, but I will have soon (once I get my hands on a plane). But today I had the bathroom door ajar, so there was plenty of air able to be drawn from the rest of the house. Starting to think that a mirror that size in a smallish bathroom will always steam up when someone's in the...

Upgraded bathroom extractor, still misting up problems

Thanks for replying. Yes, airflow seems to be good enough, will easily hold a sheet of A4 paper up against the grille. Hopefully these photos will work. Fan comes on with the bathroom light (which, as there is no window, is any time someone is in the bathroom) and, unlike the previous...

Upgraded bathroom extractor, still misting up problems

Hi all, Newbuild (in 2014) house, main bathroom has no windows and mists up terribly when anyone has a shower, especially the large mirror. Here's the layout: The original fan was a horrible looking surface mounted Nuaire Genie, which according to their specs produced a rather weedy max flow...
