    Bath tap issue

I’ve got one of these and it’s not very clear from the picture but the nozzle is flat with the body of the tap. This means that even the slightest drip and even when you are turning the tap off, the last bit of water runs along the body and collects at the base of the tap. Some of this then...

    Door handles

I replaced two sets of these door handles today. They were loose and just dropping down as opposed to springing back to the top position. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that this metal ring was broken in both of them Is this something that can easily be replaced or is it always a case of...

    Gap in window closing

This tilt and turn window has a gap in the bottom right of the window. This is the hinge end and pictured from the outside. Can I fix this by doubling up the seal in these areas? If yes, what type of seal should I use for this? Thanks in advance.

    Leak in roof lantern

I’ve had one of these in place for 10 years It was dripping inside along this rafter (marked in red): I had a look at the rubber seal and they seem fine but noticed that there is a slight gap at the top of the rafter here. There also seems to be some residue: I can see this residue on...

    Isolating electrics at switch/spur

Let me start with, I own a lock-out kit and 2 probe tester. I use these for safe isolation. Curious - if a fitting has a FCU or there is a light fitting with a single switch cable, can you isolate here whilst someone keeps a look out? Is there inherently something in a light switch or a FCU...

No hot water in electric shower

I’ve got a triton cara 8.5 kw shower that’s stopped providing hot water. It has a power supply and cables are well connected. I notice that there is no continuity between the screws I have circled in yellow. Is this likely to be the issue?

    non-maintained emergency light

I have one of these and supplied it with a permanent live and neutral. I have removed the small wire between L and SL. Nothing lights up - not even the led indicator. I have waited 3 days, thinking it may be down to charging, still no led indicator. When cut the power, the light doesn't...

    Unseen sides of shed

I’ve got two sides of my shed that won’t be visible. I’m wondering what would be an appropriate finish for these sides. The shed will be constructed with stud walls and 9mm osb on top. This will then be wrapped with a breathable membrane. Could I use hollow soffit for this? If yes, should I...

    Extending the ring

I am looking to put acoustic slatted panels on this wall and as part of that, want to adjust the socket in the bottom right. I want to extend this ring and have a socket behind the tv cabinet and then, another socket behind the TV. I am comfortable with extending the ring and the new back...

    Sockets on acoustic wall panel

I’m fitting acoustic wall panels and the wall has a socket and switch. I’d like to mount these on the surface of the panels. This will hide the cut edges of the panels and make the job look neater. They are currently in a metal box sunk in the wall. Can you please suggest how this can be...

    Acoustic Slatted Panels - fixing

I've got some of these to put up and wanted to check on your preferred method. I've seen some that have just used glue whereas others have used drywall screws in the black sections of these panels. I am fixing on to a plastered wall. Thanks in advance.

    Mitre saw stand

I have a Makita MLS 100 and May at some point upgrade to a sliding version. I currently place it in the floor every time I want to use it and then have to figure out how I keep studs and skirting level when I place the cut. I usually pack the furthest end of the timber with some offcuts to bring...

    Plumbing Grips

I am in the market for a new set of grips. I only work on residential systems - mainly 15mm and 22mm fittings. I already own a bahco adjustable spanner. I've had bahco, rothenberger and Knipex suggested to me. Can I please get your view on what you guys use on a daily basis and also is the...

    Mouse in loft

I suspect that I have mouse in my loft. I’ve come across some multi-kill traps that are connected to an app. This would save me having to get up there and check regularly. Has anyone used these and provide some advice on this please.

Garden shed build - over winter

Is this a good idea guys? I am quite busy over the summer season and wondering if I can do this project over the winter. I will need to build this over weeks/months and wondering whether parts of it will get damaged whilst out in the rain. I can purchase treated timber for the stud walls but...

    Stud size v roof rafters

Would 3x2 stud work be strong enough for 4x2 rafters with a rubber roof? The shed will be 2.5m x 2.5m and the 3x2s are considerably cheaper when ordered from the DIY sheds. Please let me know your thoughts.

    Outdoor tap

I replaced one of these and applied 15 wraps of PTFE tape. When I tighten this, I could go another half turn but that will mean the tap is pointing sideways! Is the current level of tightened good enough and will it drip over time? Seems to be okay at the moment.

    Pin hole repair

I have a 22mm mains water pipe with a small pin hole. I cut it on the pin hole and tried using a 22mm hep 2O coupler but there’s hardly any play in the pipe. Of course, I didn’t know that until I had cut the pipe… How do you guys approach this?

    Advice with this leak please

One of these joints is leaking. Not quite figured out which one. It caused the combo boiler pressure to drop. Do they need undoing and then tightening up or is it safe to tighten them up whilst we are at full pressure? Feels a bit odd writing that but please excuse my ignorance.
