Leak down the neck on a monobloc tap

There is a persistent leak down the neck of this tap which is manufactured by 'watersmith'. I've clearly overtightened the nut on the thread which has caused the rubber washer inside the tap to over-compress and now the water escapes underneath the tap and down the back of the basin due to a...

    Currys C50TW20 just packed up

Just FYI the fridge returned to normal operation once the internal temperature of the property returned to more normal levels. I basically let it get so cold inside the property that it caused the fridge to stop working. It must have reached a point where it was colder inside the house than...

    Home made portable signal booster

Hi everyone, I want to attempt a DIY fix for a poor signal in a property. I've all the spare bits and bobs to make a booster like that in the video here. My question before attempting this is : will this have any chance of working? It would be good to get the experiences of others who may...

What wrench is needed for tightening a basin nut ?

Hi all, As part of a maintenance job I've released this basin trap by hand to clean out the accumulated gunk. In doing so the nut has loosened which pushes the flange tight against the basin and now the whole thing is spinning and there are leaks. The waste is fitted with plumbers mate. The...

    NotDIY concrete slab removal

I was interested in what you said here so had a look for MyHammer and it's now renamed Mybuilder.com Also OP doesn't say how thick the concrete base is : is he expecting the hardcore base to be removed as well which could be all sorts .. broken bricks etc. This is where peoples expectations...

    Extending a gas hob cable

Thanks EFL, as always mate. Yes it's silly you're right. What I'll do is OPTION2 but will switch them over so the spur is on the left.

    Extending a gas hob cable

Hi again everyone. The gas installer was kind enough to give me some advice on the best electrical configuration and he is happy with a 3a fused spur for the gas hob alone. Yes that's not quite what you guys have suggested here but I want the guy to be happy as he is doing the gas install and...

Where to start ? : Faulty gear box and repair

Nissan Almera : gear box is faulty and as a little side project I want to remove it from the car, fix the gear box and replace it. I know nothing about cars. Where is a good place to start that's going to give a clear understanding of how to do a DIY repair like this that won't require me...

    Extending a gas hob cable

If there is enough space, is it ok to use the single outlet plate? This will save me having to buy the dual.

    Extending a gas hob cable

I have a different question now. I would like to have the gas hob and electric oven connect into the same outlet plate to avoid having to fit a new double socket and avoid having to extend the gas hob cable. Is this feasible ? : This is a 0.85kw oven - 13A

Been asked day rate and hourly rate for work on flats?

I'm honestly gobsmacked when I see that people pay hourly rate. I never pay hourly rate or would expect an hourly rate. Price work. Always. Hourly rate is a scammers calling card - yet still see plenty of people doing it and being caught out by it - even in 2023.

    Extending a gas hob cable

Thanks a lot guys. Out of interest if I had a gas installer do this job and plum in a gas hob into a worktop at the same time, how much should I expect to pay ? I've already made the cut out for the gas hob into the worktop.

    Extending a gas hob cable

Hi all, I intend to extend this cable as a new double socket has been fitted which requires a longer length of cable to reach it. What connection should I use for this ? Secondly : is 1mm2 heat resistant cable suitable with 3 pin attached ? Thanks

    Currys C50TW20 just packed up

That makes a lot of sense Rodders. Yep the temperature in the kitchen and the house generally has dropped below 10 degrees or more at times. Blimey. So have I broken the fridge trying to save money on my heating ? I really feel sometimes like life is out to get me. Do you think it will start...

    Currys C50TW20 just packed up

Had this fridge freezer for about a year now and it's stopped working. I've defrosted what was in the freezer compartment and hope there will be signs of life but I've noticed the tray at the back which is labelled 'cyclopentane' has turned from a clear liquid to a discoloured black liquid as...

Hi all, I'd like to do a favour for a friend by cleaning the inside of this bath. I'm not sure what or why this discolouration is happening. Any thoughts welcome.
