Sash Spring Balance Concealed in Stile

The prices were very reasonable. He did tell me over the phone, but I forget what it was exactly. But it was only a little more expensive than normal spirals and less costly than weights and pulleys. Either way the pricing wasn't a concern for me, I wanted the best thing for the job. He said...

Sash Spring Balance Concealed in Stile

I'm looking into https://balancesystems.co as recommended here before. However I'm struggling to find any real information on the web, beyond what the manufacturer provides The system seems perfect, completely hidden spring balances, that provide full movement. And yet almost no window...

HG Scale Away Left Too Long on Ceramic Tiles

I left HG Scale Away on ceramic tiles slightly too long - about 15 minutes. I was scrubbing away at hard to clean areas, that took ages to get off. It has left a white residue that doesn't come off if I scrub with water. I'm really hoping this is residue left on the tile (it looks this way) that...

How to protect furniture from SBR primed flooring

How sticky is a two coat (2:1 ratio) SBR primed fibre-cement board floor? We need to move furniture around the room (once the layer is dry), as we do the two layers. How sticky is the SBR primer, and what could we place over it, to protect the furniture (stop it sticking to the primer). What...

Help with loft rooms heat loss calculation

If I cannot prove that Tredaire King 0.8 tog is OK, then I will have to play it safe with the Ball & Young Olympic 0.5. But the samples of King, that we have, are considerably higher comfort levels the Olympic5. We used between joists spreader plates with gifafloor. So we are in slightly...

Help with loft rooms heat loss calculation

We have just had an L shaped loft conversion done. Builder did not follow the architects instructions for insulation, so now I don’t know what my heat loss is. We have had UFH installed and need to determine if we go for tog 0.5 or 0.8 underlay. I’ve asked the supplier and they say to answer...

How to remove foam from recess light plasterboard hole

Builders sprayed foam into recess lights, to fill PIR gaps (BCO request). It is sitting on the inside of the plasterboard ceiling, and i would like to remove that. I need a scraper or blade with a 90 degree bend in it, but can’t find anything. Closest I can find is a hook scraper, but the length...

sash : bevel vs bevel rebated vs straight meeting rails

So no one cares about the safety factor any more. Why is that no longer considered an issue?

sash : bevel vs bevel rebated vs straight meeting rails

The sash construction books I have read all recommend bevel rebated meeting rails for better draft sealing and security. But i’ve seen most companies drop this in favor for a simple straight meeting rail. What are the reasons for this? is it simply cheaper to make (and most customers don’t know...

Flat Roof Guttering - opinions on what's going on here?

Just finishing up our loft conversion, and I noticed this. I'm still waiting to hear back from the builders, but wanted to get second opinions. The hopper is existing, but I swear that "roof" is not. What could that "roof/lid" be? i.e. the bit of lead sticking out horizontally over the hopper...

Conundrum: UFH Tog values and Underlay for Carpet

I'm currently looking at 3 different underlays. King, Heatflow and Olympic 5. King is 0.8 tog, 8.3mm and 42db and Heatflow 0.75 tog, 6.1mm and 31db. So for the sake of 0.05 tog, between those two, I think the King wins hands down. So that narrows it down to King or Olympic 5 which is 0.5tog...

Recommended closed-cell foam? And opinion on lower quality insulation work?

Understood, I just have no real experience in this side of things, no legal contacts etc. I have no idea what to withhold etc. last time I with held money from a builder he dragged me to court for two years. I counter sued and won. Was awarded my costs back + extra, never saw a penny, so was out...

Recommended closed-cell foam? And opinion on lower quality insulation work?

We gave them architect diagrams they agreed to the job. We agreed to change the warm roof to cold, to give more head height. We didn’t agree with any other deviations, nor were we told they were deviating. Although we did hit problems, as the steels in the diagram where in the existing floor...

Recommended closed-cell foam? And opinion on lower quality insulation work?

The builders installed my L shaped loft conversion, but not to architect diagram spec, and plasterboard was put up very quickly. So I now have the following issues. What you see in the photos is what was plasterboarded. 1) Did not tape or seal any joins. Including the light recess cut out...

How to seal sash parting bead

There are gaps on all three sides of the parting bead. Supplier has offered to make the parting bead bigger, to fill the gap. While the gap will be smaller, there will still be a gap. I've seen the reddiseals and others. They put a strip on one side, which improves it, but it's not the same as...

How to seal sash parting bead

We have very draughty newly installed windows. Supplier has agreed the gaps around the parting bead are too big. They will instead install larger parting beads, but they said they do not seal them. I'm looking around and I cannot see any products that give a good seal all around the perimeter...
