    Renovating Exterior of this House

She has a state-of-mind problem (that we're helping with too), but my question is a DIY problem. I always like to do a reasonable job, especially if it's someone else's home. We've a few friends/ acquaintances with different height towers, so reaching the roof/chimney safely might well be...

    Renovating Exterior of this House

A couple of us have offered to renovate/redecorate the exterior of my (female) friend's old end-terraced house. Currently, it looks very 'dirty' and unsightly, and she's unhappy returning there each day (see pics below). So it's primarily about improving the aesthetics. *There is almost no...

Front facia panel of Zanussi Dishwasher falling off

It's been fitted for a year, come loose, and now fallen off. It's the type of panel that 'slides up' as you open the door. I removed it fully, and properly repaired the upper fixing points (two white circular 'knobs' that fix behind a slot in the actual door - they had torn out the chipboard...

    Wren Kitchen Unit questions

I bought a kitchen from Wren a year ago, and the installation went smoothly. Everything good. But I now want to change a few things around, and am struggling to get any meaningful 'support' or advice from them. Specifically: - I want to swap round the locations of some 'drawers' and...

Why is my microware oven making this loud noise?

Thanks everyone. Big-All - you might well be correct. Hopefully this (YouTube) link to the sound file works correctly and you can clarify. It only last ~10seconds, and in real life is very loud!

Why is my microware oven making this loud noise?

I've a counter-top Microwave oven that's cooking perfectly well, but makes a very loud 'humming' sound whilst doing so. Can anyone help identify the fault from the actual sound? (link to the mp3 sound file Recording of Humming Sound). I've read online that it's likely to be a fault with either...

    Squeeking / creaking floorboards (again)

So, I've now undone all the screws across almost the whole T&G flooring. And almost all the creaking has now gone?!! Does that give a big clue as to what the problem is? There were a lot of 6mm screws, and they were very tight (needed an electric drill, rather than normal Bosch battery...

Oh okay, yes, I get it thanks.

    Squeeking / creaking floorboards (again)

Yes, floor is very level, and the sub-floor joists all looked very good and 'flat' before the boards were fixed. I'm not at all sure where the 'expansion gaps' should be? Between the ends of the T&G boards, or ??? I really hope you're right and that 'a local joiner will have no problem'! Cheers.

    Squeeking / creaking floorboards (again)

Hi, I've read many of the previous threads on this topic, but what can be done in my specific case?... The boards in my new extension upstairs bedrooms are (3 months after project completion and full payment) squeeking like crazy pretty much all over. (I paid extra for 'sound-reducing'...

4m long Aluminium Transition Strip? [Laminate to Carpet]

Firstly, I'm struggling to find such a transition strip. I really hadn't wanted to butt shorter strips together. Does such a product exist? Secondly, the 10mm laminate floor I've installed is intended to be 'floating', and gaps have been left around all the edges (with skirting installed...

Does a small sink for a kitchen island need an overflow?

I've just found out that the small ceramic sink I was intending to use on a kitchen island doesn't have an overflow outlet. [It's the small size RangeMaster sink - their normal-sized equivalent does have an overflow] I'd assumed an overflow hole on a sink would be virtually essential, in case...

Best type of wall for a concealed shower?

I'm hoping to have a concealed shower built into a (new) partition wall. To make the installation of the shower valve etc. easier, is it best to have a particular type of wall? I'm guessing that a Stud-type wall would be best? Blockwork wall 2nd choice, and a Brick wall by far the least...

All really helpful replies. Many thanks, Ezio

Remote control Floor Lamps etc, but from a Wall-mounted Controller?

Something like this, but this switch only controls a single Power Socket.

Remote control Floor Lamps etc, but from a Wall-mounted Controller?

Hi, In a new extension, I want to have several Floor and Table lamps but to control them all from wall switches at the same point as the Ceiling lights. [i.e. I don't want to use a separate, Remote Controller, that will no-doubt be misplaced]. I'm not saying they need to be switches precisely...

Is there a reset button on this old immersion heater? Where?!

Fantastic both, thank you. I thought I was being stupid unable to find a button!

Is there a reset button on this old immersion heater? Where?!

My old (but little used) immersion heater has suddenly stopped working. Obviously I want to try resetting it, but I can't find the usual pinhole reset. Satchwell Controller. Does this controller actually have a reset button?! Where precisely is it?

Getting a FAIR 'fixed price' quote for a ~£100k extension

Thanks for people's answers. I think some people have mis-interpreted my question, but.. Someone asked 'how do I know the extension will cost ~£100k. Well, two different builders told me last year that - without costing it up properly - they expected it to cost in the region of £95k (for one of...
