Worked it out, it was catching at the bottom. There is an Allen screw at the bottom of each hinge to adjust height, the photo shows the top of the hinge. moving the top of the door towards the hinge has fixed it.

You haven't got air loss, there is gas being generated by the system so potentialy corrosion somewhere.

Surely if the bath filler behaves in the same way the fault isn't in the shower mixer. Where is the hot water drawn off from the tank? Our showers were fed from half way down the tank and used to run out of hot water very quickly when we had visitors (lots of showers).

Looking again there is a loose black wire as well…… also from the tank stat. Only one wire was connected to the tank stat (common to T6 not that it means much) no one has touched it since the guy who serviced the boiler changed the three position valve actuator a year or so ago so the wires...

Previous owner may have had too much stored in the loft. having stripped it back that far I would replace the joists with something thicker to give a flat ceiling.
