What's the best way to replace or extend the cable on this power supply?

Yes, there's a cover and cable gripper. I had wondered about cutting the cable short as you suggest, but it would be very tricky to solder on a new length of wire.

What's the best way to replace or extend the cable on this power supply?

I, perhaps foolishly, assumed that there would be screw terminals for at least the mains cable on this power supply (there should be a picture attached). Instead the cable appears to be soldered to the board and I can't get the case open to replace the stubbly little bit the manufacturer has...

How best to install a LED driver under a shelf?

Thanks, I did some more research after posting and that was the conclusion I'd come to as well. Time to buy another driver. I've since found kits available at B&Q and IKEA that are essentially what you described. Would my idea of putting it in a custom enclosure be an acceptable solution...

How best to install a LED driver under a shelf?

I would like to install some LED strip under one of the shelves in my workshop. For now, at least, it'll be plugged into a wall socket rather than hard wired. The driver will be mounted to the underside of the shelf along with the LED strip. I've bought a suitable constant voltage driver (one...

    Cracked window sill repair

Thanks, it's solid masonry below the sill all the way down. The crack runs through that hole. It was full of wood which is what they used before plastic wall plugs. Who knows why that hole was drilled originally but I'm pretty sure that's what's caused the crack. Body filler isn't a bad idea though.

    Cracked window sill repair

I'm in the process of restoring an old sash window and I've found that the window sill is cracked. The sill is a big old lump of sandstone about 120mm thick and, as far as I can tell, the crack runs all the way through. The way I see it I have three options: Do nothing. I don't like this...

    Hearth and engineered floor conundrum

I've installed exactly one slate hearth so take my advice with a large pinch of salt but I think you're asking for trouble if you try to install it onto the wooden floor. Our slate sits on a bed of mortar on top of a significant concrete sub-hearth and has given us no trouble. The slate needs a...

Cavity Closing and Fitting an External Door

A little while back we had an extension built but unfortunately our builder went bankrupt before he finished the job. Lack of funds means I've been finishing the work myself but I could do with some advice on fitting the external door. I've attached a couple of photos of what we have and a...

LED power supply unit with active cooling

I've put together a small LED lighting set up with 5 * 2.5m strips of LED ribbon powered from a 12V 10A power supply (like this) with a total draw from the LED strips of <7.5A. The power supply and all the wiring are inside a 200x120x75mm project box (like this). Obviously the power supply gets...

Tiling above a slightly slopping bath

I should have said there's a slight step up (about 70mm) at the head of the bath. If I cut the tiles on the long edge I'll end up with an awkward grout line and thin bits of tile along the head end. Perhaps I should just bite the bullet and accept that I've got a lot of cuts to do. No, you know...

Tiling above a slightly slopping bath

I plan on tiling above the bath this weekend but last weekend while I was laying out for the tiles I discovered that the long edge of the bath might not be perfectly level. It's pretty close, no more than 5mm out over the 1800mm length, but we're using 100x200mm tiles with a bevelled edge and...

Stupid mistake leads to leaking bath overflow

Good thinking both. I think I can probably get a piece of string around the brass bit. Can't say I'm looking forward to the job but it's got to be better that the alternatives.

Stupid mistake leads to leaking bath overflow

I installed a bath over Christmas and it seems I made the schoolboy error of forgetting to put sealant on the overflow where it connects to the bath. The rubber washer is pressed up against the fibreglass so it doesn't stand a chance of making a proper seal. It wouldn't be so bad but I've...

Replacement flush plate for concealed cistern

That looks spot on, thanks. The name doesn't ring a bell but the plate and the other parts look right. Thanks.

Replacement flush plate for concealed cistern

Images now attached, I didn't take any as there doesn't seem to be much to see.

Replacement flush plate for concealed cistern

The flush plate (shiny silver bit with buttons) on our concealed cistern must have been sprayed with some corrosive bathroom cleaner at some point as the finish on it has become damaged. I can see that you can buy replacements but I can't tell from the details if they will fit. Are flush plates...

    New suspended wooden floor

I'd rather not cut pockets into the wall as it's a party wall of slightly dubious construction (the joy of having an old house) and the neighbours are grumpy. Building a sleeper wall is (this is a ground floor bathroom) is also not really an option as there's extensive drainage over that side of...

    New suspended wooden floor

I've been searching around for those adjustable angles and I can't get them locally but I've found a couple of online suppliers (that will supply in bulk). Would this be an acceptable alternative solution though? I'd get a slightly larger regular joist hanger, in this case I'd need a 75mm...

    New suspended wooden floor

Thanks, I'll see if I can find those angles or something like them. I've pretty much got a services plan. The top joist in the picture might need a little thought to get around the toilet waste but other than that I think I'm good. The only problem I can see with those angle plates it how would...

    New suspended wooden floor

I've got a room that's currently missing a floor so in order to avoid any nagging from the family it's about time I got one installed! As this will be a bathroom which may have tiles on the floor I've aimed to spec it to be stiffer than the building regs call for. All timber (C16 or better and...
