Sorry to say that you won't get this device to work in your situation for two reasons 1 Sounds like the switch you are trying to replace is two way and the PIR is one way. 2 The PIR device looks like it requires a neutral to work and the isn't a neutral in your existing switch wiring...

That looks like rubber insulated cable from the junction box dissapearing into the ceiling as well....Bad news! I would be concerned with the incomming supply arangement as well, looks like VIR singles to me (?) with a very thin earth wire.

Why use LV? What's wrong with 230V downlighters? NO transformer/converter to burn up or hide in enclosure etc. etc.

From what I can make out he's connected all the "lives" (Brown) together. Sounds like It's the Blue wires not being connected (Neutral) that's causing the other lights not to work.

You say you have run the cable from the outside light to the switch. Where are you going to pick up the neutral? (and earth if it's an old installation with no earth to the lighting circuit) Light switches only normally have Live feeds to them and switched lives to the fittings, they do...

Too right Bas! I well remember my grandmother doing just that! She had one of those two way lamp holders where you could put a BC lamp in one socket and a BC adapter in the other! the earth wire just floated free! BTW can you still buy those twin lamp holder adapters? I think Woolies...

Thanks for the explanation, It's a bit clearer now, Looks like the earth bonding clamp has been taken off the water pipe for whatever reason. As you suggest, purchase a new earth clamp and re establish the connection on your side of the meter. Regards FB

The bond to the gas looks fine to me. The water is difficult to tell, there appears to be an earth clamp on one of the pipes but, I can't see if one of the earth wires is connected to it. It should be the same size as the gas one. It is possible that the "loose" wire you have found was an old...

The earthing arrangement shown in your picture is NOT the main Earth bonding. The Gas & water mains entering your premises should be bonded back to the MET (Main Earth Terminal) within 600mm of entry to the building. Find your gas meter and water stop cock and check in those areas for the main...
