    Toilet cistern - hairline crack?

Opened up the cistern to the downstairs toilet today and noticed in the left hand corner that the glaze appears to have a hairline crack. On the outside there is no damage and the toilet has been in situ for 2.5+ years. Is this a cause for concern if it's only on the inside?

Can someone ID this drain outside the kitchen?

Thanks for the replies and suggestions, I do appreciate them. In the end I went with Dyno-rod, mainly because I already had drains cover with my gas and electricity this year so it was an excess payment of £60. The guy who came out was quite good to be fair. He tried drain rods and a plunger...

Can someone ID this drain outside the kitchen?

Thanks for the info Hugh. I have had another look under the kitchen sink and I think you are right, where as I had assumed the waste ran under the kitchen it makes more sense it is working the way you described - difficult to tell because this house has a lot of pipes under concrete! Definitely...

Can someone ID this drain outside the kitchen?

Thanks Chris. If I don't want it, best to get a plumber in to relocate it? Any way of working out if I actually still need it?

Can someone ID this drain outside the kitchen?

Just had builders around to start taking up the decking to replace with a patio and discovered this. It looks to be blocked but connected to the kitchen drain as whenever the kitchen sink drains, water comes out the top of this. That said, the kitchen waste is connected to a pipe that runs...

    1970s gas pipe in concrete

Hi, Just removed the original fireplace hearth and came across this. Before I get someone in to refill the hole with concrete, I wondered if the pipe needs better protecting? The pipe is really solid which makes me think it might be iron and not copper? Was that standard practice in those days...

    Venting Tumble Dryer

Hi, I currently have what i can only describe as a 'normal' drill with hammer-action, but am having difficulty in drilling the 112mm or so diameter required for fitting a tumble dryer vent. Instead of using a diamond core bit (which probably wouldn't even work with my drill), i have decided...

    Earthing Question

Thanks for confirming! I recall reading the same - screws can be changed out or corrode which reduces their effectiveness. Thanks again.

    Earthing Question

Hi Spark123, Thanks for that bit of useful information :). In light of that information, i have another 1 gang wall socket with twin earth connectors. I trust it would be okay to take the two earth wires out of the mounting box, put both of them in one of the earth terminals in the plastic...

    Earthing Question

Hi, I am about to replace a 1 gang plastic switch with a 1 gang brass dimmer switch. The mounting box is metal and has two earth wires going into it. Since i need to earth the face plate, i understand i need to run a single cable from the face plate to the mounting box. However, i was...

Hot F&E Feed When Heating Is On

Ok, i will put pump onto speed setting 3. It was previously at 2, but i only just changed it to see if it would stop the hot water going up the F&E pipe. Is this incorrect pipework something that should be rectified ASAP? i.e. is it going to cause any other problems other than hot water...

Hot F&E Feed When Heating Is On

Ok, i understand that. In the picture i have attached, the vent pipe is the second one from the pump. The feed into the hot water cylinder does not get hot if that bit of information helps?

Hot F&E Feed When Heating Is On

Please forgive me, but do you mean where is the expansion pipe leading to the F&E? When i posted earlier, someone also suspected a shoddy piping job but at the time it was just an observation they made.

Hot F&E Feed When Heating Is On

Hi, First off...greatly appreciate the advice i have received on these excellent forums so far and thus, would like to thank the members who contribute here! Onto the 'problem': The boiler is a Glow-worm Fuelsaver 55-60. If any other info required, i would be happy to provide. Now...

    Flex or Twin & Earth?

Not to worry. I can always pop down to my local TLC and pick them up. Cheers for the advice everyone

    Flex or Twin & Earth?

In that case, i may buy a 150w unit as well. The 400w was on offer for about £5 at Focus a while back. I'm intending to run a cable from the loft, then drill a hole in the downstairs room directly below where the fitting will go. From there, add the switch and then from there, run another cable...

    Flex or Twin & Earth?

And there in which lies the reason why it was on offer i guess!

    Flex or Twin & Earth?

Yes, good point. Thanks for the quick update.

    Flex or Twin & Earth?

Yes, i will be using a switch with 5amp fuse fitted. I trust that would be sufficient?

    Flex or Twin & Earth?

Hi, Thanks for the quick reply. If i used T&E in the location i'm thinking, then yes, it should be protected from sunlight. Shame i didn't check tlc-direct more thoroughly as i literally just placed an order with them! May pick up some cable from their local branch in that case. As for the...
