Advice needed - replacing immersion heater cable.

sorry, I obviously didn't make it clear, but it's not a shower pump, it's the central heating pump.... i.e. when the fire is hot enough we switch it on to pump the water round the rads..... I know, I know, very primitive !! I guess the same applies with the FCU though ?

    Two gang switch

Ummmm....... If you really think you have "the yellow wire in the wrong terminal" I really don't think you should be attempting to change a plug fuse, let alone re-wire a light switch.... Sorry if that sounds harsh, but the yellow wire you mention will be the earth, and if you really...

Advice needed - replacing immersion heater cable.

Again, Many thanks for the reply's... I had a good look at the layout of wiring for this last night..... Damocles - Spot on.... The breaker is 16A... from this the existing "cable" runs to a cupboard beside the coal fire, where it is connected to the immersion switch, from this switch a...

Advice needed - replacing immersion heater cable.

Thanks for the answers / comments, brown-nought - The current immersion switch already has it's own MCB on the consumer unit (Currently switched off after I noticed the state of the flex), I haven't taken the front off the immersion switch yet, so I'm not sure of the cable thickness and...

Advice needed - replacing immersion heater cable.

Thanks for the reply, From your definition, the wire I called "Cable" is definately "Flex"... That means it's round... just like an extension lead flex. I'm not 100%, but I'm fairly sure the "flex" runs straight down to the switch... I can have a proper look again tonight though if it...

Advice needed - replacing immersion heater cable.

Hi all, As it's winter now, I turned up the heat on our immersion heater yesturday, but noticed that the wires are in very bad condition... all very brittle, and the green/yellow earth has got dark brown patches on it, also it looks as though someone has spread marmite on the cables  I...

Need something for between carpet and floor tiles

Hi, I recently finished tiling my bathroom floor, and need one of those aluminium strip thingys (No, I don't know what they are called !!) to go between the carpet in the upstairs landing and the new tiled floor in the bathroom. I've been looking for ages, but can't find anything suitable...

    Mouse goes mad

Thats got nothing to do with the mouse.... Just the signals your mobile is sending/receiving interfering with your monitor. If you continue to place your mobile near a monitor (or indeed a 100hz tv) it will kill it over time.

connected new bath but no water

There may well have been a solid plastic washer in the new tap that you should have removed before connecting them, sometimes they are fitted with these from the manufacturer to stop grit/dirt entering the tap prior to use ? The only other thing is have you fitted a stop valve to the pipework...

    Bathroom light wiring problem

You don't say, but I'm assuming your new light fitting has one block with space for three wires ? If so... Remove the existing light fitting. Connect all the wires from existing block 2 (All the red ones) together in a separate block. (these do not connect to your new light) You...

    Thermostat wiring extenstion

personally I'd never use "chocolate blocks" to extend any wiring... I'd feel much safer in replacing the entire length of cable. ....could guess at the ampage, but it would be much safer if you checked yourself... it should say on the mcb that provides the supply.

Fitted new bath taps, and the water flow is very poor

Ok, I'm sure there was nothing like that in the tap ens when I fitted the flexis - however I'll take a look over the weekend. Again, many thanks to all

Fitted new bath taps, and the water flow is very poor

Umm, Thanks for the reply's... Chris R - Yes the supply is from the CW Tank in the loft, and I guess it must be around 3m higher than the taps. The taps were also supplied as part of a whole new bathroom suite, being honest I didn't know you could get different taps for different systems...

Connecting to a Cast Iron Soil Pipe

Just my opinion only... :| , Never done it but I would think you'd probably have to use an angle grinder with a diamond cut disc. Wouldn't want to cut the hole too big though :( It could get messy.

Opinions wanted on tiling & skirting board (Please)

Hi, Bathroom is being fully tiled (floor to ceing).... Should I..... 1) Tile down to the floor boards and then fit skirting board over tiles.. or.. 2) Fit skirting board, then tile down to it. I'm absolutely convinced I should go for option 2, however Wifey  has other ideas...

Fitted new bath taps, and the water flow is very poor

The Flexi hose is certainly by no means "dead straight"... However, they are also not "bent over" either.... throughout the entire length they remain circular and are not squashed anywhere. They probably look a bit like this: "~" , Well maybe not quite that bad ! Because of the position of...

Fitted new bath taps, and the water flow is very poor

Hi, I've recently fitted out my bathroom, and the flow from the new bath taps (Monobloc) is far too slow... i'm fairly sure the new taps are the problem, the supply is via a 22mm pipe, and previously the flow has always been fine. The only thing I've changed apart from the taps is that I've used...

    Gearbox oil

Use your little finger.... It should just about fit in the hole.. The oil level should be right up to the top, so if you can stick your finger in and it comes out dry you know it's pretty much empty.

    Don't use Slotted Screws......

I started some boxing in work in the bathroom on saturday..... (One of the last jobs) all was going well, when I had ran out of suitable phillips type screws, the nearest I could find in dia & length was an old slotted type screw.... Anyway, I had my drill fitted with a suitable bit and was...
