Security light with pir sensor built in

I did something similar with 3 of my PIR, LED security lights. I put the SONOFF switch with a relay in a watertight box added onto the back of the security light. The new WiFi switch controls the LED light, so when the PIR detects motion it energises the relay which closes the contacts across...

    Kitchen Sink Replacement

Our current sink with 1.5 basins sits in the worktop over the base unit, the unit under the basin side is 570mm wide. The new sink we are looking at also 1.5 basins is wider and says needs it needs a minimum of a 600mm unit. I've measured the distance between the far edges of the two basins...

    Fence upgrade, new thicker posts.

I'm hoping to avoid digging them out, surrounded by slabs on both sides, if i reuse the same holes concrete will be broken up with jack hammer. Good tips, thank you.

    Fence upgrade, new thicker posts.

It's time for me to replace the interwoven panelled fence. Some of the 75 mm posts have rotted at ground level and been repaired years ago with those metal plates. We'd like a post and rail fence in its place, I did this before with the fence at the bottom of the garden and was straightforward...

Replacing external sounder on older system

Many thanks for both replies. I'll follow advice and get a grade 2 and be sure to photo old wiring.

Replacing external sounder on older system

The house has a 'Conqueror' alarm system as installed by the builders in 1997. The external sounder battery is flat and worn out again (I replaced it once already a few years back), and I'm thinking to just replace the sounder this time with something like a Pyronix Deltabell Plus. I've come...

Replacing Ideal Classic boiler, or not?

Thank you both, that seems pretty conclusive. Advice noted and taken, can close the thread now!

Replacing Ideal Classic boiler, or not?

We have an Ideal Classic FF250 situated in the garage and it is working fine. Serviced annually since the house was built in 1997 and no other costs, its been reliable, never failed. The only issue is feeling all that 'hot air' combustion gasses coming out of the flue and going to waste. I'm...

    Installing a safe

Thank you, we thought that was a great suggestion, so loosed the bolts and let the safe away from the wall a little, put expanding foam down the back and also underneath inside the plinth. Tightened it all back again and let the foam bond the back of the safe to concrete blocks and the bottom to...

    Installing a safe

That would be a good solution, though we don't have any metal strips, and not so good at working with metal. After a cup of coffee, head scratching and looking around his shed, we came up with a solution. There were some lengths of 4x4 fence post offcuts, enough to make a substantial base. It...

    Installing a safe

I'm helping someone to install a home safe and we've hit a snag. The position has been decided upon and the wall prepared. The wall had plasterboard, then a gap, then high density concrete blocks. We've cut out the plasterboard and skirting so it can fit flush up to the wall. The snag is...

New Induction hob, existing cooker circuit

Thank you. The only new cable would be less than 2 metres length of 6mm clipped to the wall behind the kitchen units, accessible where needed to do this when the drawers are removed. I'd like having the oven/hob on an RCD circuit, all sockets and central heating already protected, just cooker...

New Induction hob, existing cooker circuit

Thank you. Seems fairly straightforward then. I had a look behind the existing (double) oven and its connected direct from the 45A cooker switch nearby. There isn't a double appliance splitter as the existing hob is gas and not on the same oven circuit. So no need to be RCD protected as its an...

New Induction hob, existing cooker circuit

I'll be getting an electrician to install a new induction hob and would like to be aware in advance what new or altered wiring will be required. The house was built in 1997 and has a split consumer unit. The existing cooker circuit is in 6mm cable on a 32A mcb, not RCD protected. There is a...

    Silicone beading question

About a month a go I applied silicone beading around a shower. I've now got more to do and have bought a beading tool to get a better finish and like the results. Can I put new silicone over the month old beading to get the better finish using the tool or does it need removing first?

Composite door, weatherstrip and frame rotting

Thank you all very much for the benefit of your experience and your help and advice. I now know what to do and it will be up to me to do a good enough job that will last a few more years or if not will fail next winter. I'll put up the photos when done anyway. Thanks again, the help is much...

Composite door, weatherstrip and frame rotting

I don't know if MDF, I was just guessing what this outer skin over the door frame might have been. It seems to me like a reasonable quality door that for some reason got dry rot under the drip board, maybe that was badly fitted?
