    Steel rope, anchor etc

A marine chandler would be as good a place as any. I'm not sure where in London you are but Arthur Beale on Shaftesbury avenue sell everything you need. You'd probably find better prices at one of the chandlers in Essex though (TCS chandlery maybe?) You could also try a handrail/architectural...

Capping on parapet wall to cover external insulation

Hi all, I am in the process of finalising a quote for external insulation of the solid brick gable end wall of my 1920’s end of terrace house, and have a question about how to deal with the capping along the top. I have a parapet wall on the gable end wall, and at the moment it is capped...

Wooden floor gaps and heating efficiency

Any deck caulking product for sealing teak decking on boat will work, but the seams will all be black, and you'll have to sand it back and refinish the floor after filling the gaps as you wont get a neat finish by cutting off the excess. sikaflex 290dc is a good one.

How to fix timber frame to felt roof without causing leaks?

Hi all, Today I had a small flat roof on my extension replaced as it had perished and was leaking. The roof previously had a timber frame fixed along the roadside edge to which barbed wire and a trailing plant were fixed for security. The frame was about 1m high and about 3m long, fixed...

Drilling 45mm Hole in Railway Sleepers

If you need to drill a few, you could use a holesaw to make suitably sized template and then use a straight cutter on a router to make each hole. If you are using a template bush on the router (better than using bearing guided router bits) remember to use a suitably oversized holesaw for making...

Does anyone know where i can get hard rubber blocks?

How about these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rubber-Bumper-Block-Buffer-Protector-Trailer-Boat-Truck-38-2025-/220961572317?pt=UK_Trailers_Transporters_Parts&hash=item33725605dd They're used to prevent damage to truck bodies when backing up against loading bays.

    Large screw.. small head??

I can't really recommend it from a health and safety perspective but I've reshaped screw heads by putting the screw in a drill and holding it to an upturned angle grinder. A poor mans lathe! Spax do cylindrical head screws which might work...

I would like to shape metal

Hub Le Bas do a massive range of tubing, there's a good chance that they'll have what you need but they normally have large minimum orders http://www.hublebas.co.uk They have a branch in Newton Heath, Manchester. If they wont do small quantities, maybe they could suggest a local distributor.

    Rubber floor in kitchen.. anyone?

I used rubber floor (smooth) in my kitchen, bathroom and toilet and love it. Just be sure that the subfloor is perfectly smooth. Any joints between sheets of chipboard/plywood flooring will be visible through the rubber unless you fill and sand them.

    Drive entrance gates

zinc phosphate is a great primer for clean bare steel. It provides a great bond to the metal and is a good base for subsequent coatings. It is not so good on rusty pitted steel, in thise case I would be happier using zinc rich or similar. Two part epoxy based primers dry harder, and stick...

    Parquet Floor: Expansion Gap???

Last year I finished installing some teak (or similar) parquet in my house. I laid 18mm plywood over the pitch pine floorboards (on joists), and bonded the parquet to the plywood with lecol 5500. I left an expansion gap absolutely everywhere, including door frames, the stair riser, doorways...

Buiilding a white plinth / display pedastal

I made about 10 of these last year for the display of architectural models. I used my festool circular saw to get straight square cuts. you will never be able to get a perfect cut with the jigsaw. You are better off getting the timberyard to do the cuts for you unless you buy yourself a...

Liquid DPM applied to Plywood, will it crack as wood expands

epoxy resin (west systems is good) if it needs to be totally watertight. Bond it to the joists using sikaflex or similar. Its worth mentioning that this is totally unnecessary for a shed, and is generally only used in boats.

Best way to secure studwork to concrete floor

how thick is the concrete? The fixing really only needs to resist shear (sideways movement) as the wall is unlikely to recieve any upwards stresses. Bearing this in mind you could drill through the sole into the concrete but only far enough to set some studs with epoxy resin. When the resin...

Whats the best way to colour wood filler

If it's a small gap, mixing PVA with sawdust is pretty standard. I recently used lecol 7500 mixed with sanding dust for a parquet floor and it works extremely well on very fine gaps and holes, but needs several goes if the hole is bigger.

    Installing reclaimed parquet flooring

I recently installed a reclaimed parquet floor acoss the ground floor of my 20s house and had the same issue. The floor boards were far too uneven to install a parquet floor over. I couldn't face ripping all the floorboards up and so I just laid plywood over the top. I could have used 12mm...

protecting / painting wpb plywood for outside

Epoxy resin is about the most weather resistant coating you can apply. If you fillet the corners too it'll add some structural strength. I'd give it three coats of west systems epoxy and then cover it in a 2 pack polyurethane top coat. It'll last forever as long as the coating is applied...
