    Decent non SDS masonary bits?

As a plumber I'm sick of routing through my bits tray looking for a sharp 4mm or 7mm bit. I had a few cheap Bosch sets recently (shiny) chrome but they all loose their tip quickly. I've just made a right meal out of a simple door stop in a concrete floor with my 18V 3 speed Makita and I'm...

    Cut wood silently???

Unreasonable neighbours really wind me up! I would prove a point by letting your house go to rack and ruin over the next twenty years and really lower the tone of the street.,....then when they complain about the state of the place you can say.. "Well! you forbid me to do any work and bang...

    Silverline Tools?

Those Toolstation Silverline bits are an absolute joke, they don't even snap they just bend! On a different note I bought some Silverline branded adjustable props for drylining ceilings and they are decent enough.

    Biscuit Jointers

Is it worth buying a biscuit jointer for a few one off diy jobs? Maybe look at getting a router and a biscuit cutter bit, its far more useful as you can do loads with it. Screwfix had a wicked deal on a 2000W 1/2" Dewalt router for £60 but sold out very quickly in clearance. Who bought...

NEW SKIMMED WALLS WHAT THE PROCEEDURE B4 PAINTING

About 8 years ago I coated my newly plastered bathroom walls in PVA prior to painting...I did this after being given the wrong advice on the internet. The paint went on really nicely straight from the tub and looked great...fast forward 8 years and we extended the bathroom requiring more...

Combi drill not drilling into brick

Maybe wizzardofodds should have asked the question on a diy forum and maybe got some cival responses,,,,oh wait this is a DIY forum. Dont understand all the hostilities on this thread. I'm sure the op is an expert in his chosen profession and could go on about stuff we wouldn't have a clue...

Combi drill not drilling into brick

Wizzard of odds......If you want to buy Hilti (I'm sure you can buy a decent Hilit SDS for under £800) but they don't publish prices you need to go to a Hilti store or speak to the rep.

Combi drill not drilling into brick

Joe....are you saying SDS action is comparable to 'hammer' action on a combi drill?? Granted though that Makita drill bit set is aimed at diy and is rebadged junk.

Combi drill not drilling into brick

The only true hammer action is and SDS drill and SDS bit, anything else is just vibrating the drill bit slightly. I have the big boy Makita 3 speed combi BHP451 and that struggles and takes ages to drill those hard bricks, engineering bricks I believe they are called.

How Do I Remove This Tap

Double rubber washer will fail very quickly as the tap will feel really spongey and you want the tighten then down hard and the washers will squash and lead to problems. Well done for removing the head!

    Stair Rods??

mmm.....it seems the carpet needs protecting against the carpet protector itself.

    Stair Rods??

Sorry, I mainly do bathroom refits so stairs will be protected for a couple of weeks. Its not slippy at all. I used to use dust sheets but everyone kept tripping on them on the landing. Saw a builder who used the self adhesive roll and the customers loved it so I've used it ever since.

    Stair Rods??

I just buy a roll of self adhesive carpet protector for £8.40 + VAT, saves messing around with dust sheets on stairs and expensive stair rods. Trade Tiler are great though I use them often.
