What's going on with this toilet cistern?!

So just for future reference, if anyone searches and encounters something similar, it was exactly what you said (i.e. a pretty big job, so I ended up leaving it to the pro's), thanks!

What's going on with this toilet cistern?!

Thanks for confirming, it's making more sense now!

What's going on with this toilet cistern?!

Thanks for that, I've actually replaced that unit in the past, and I wish it was that easy again! On this occasion, though I'm pretty sure it's the fill valve that's cutting on and off, and that's through the cistern (and potentially the whole unit)

What's going on with this toilet cistern?!

So what would happen when the whole unit is pulled forward, would the soil pipe still be attached or would that also be on some form of flex pipe do you think? Or would it be something very similar to this?

What's going on with this toilet cistern?!

Ahh, that might make sense, thanks for that. The bolts at the bottom may mean the cistern portion alone could be removed with flex hose attached to the valves etc. The only potential issue I could see with that is the bolts are likely to have some form of nut on them, so, either way you cut it...

What's going on with this toilet cistern?!

Thanks for that, surely everything is hard soldered in place though, to the pipework behind, how can you move the whole thing when it's attached to inflexible pipes? So the valve works to an extent, but the adjustment thread (if you will) has been so messed with it's basically threaded now, so...

What's going on with this toilet cistern?!

Can anyone help me with this boxed-in mess, please? Hoping someone's seen this type of toilet before. The main valve needs replacing, which (I assume) is only accessible from underneath, I removed the boxing in, because that's obviously how you access it...except you don't... How do I access...

Hot Water Bath Tap extremely slow? - Gravity fed

Yep, I've noticed this on two of the hot taps we've had fitted recently, both are "livable" but much slower than their predecessors. Seems most new taps are designed for modern pressurized systems, but there's an expectation that none plumbers just know this stuff (most people just pick...

    (Very) Noisy Pipes

Hi Andy, Thanks for that, well that's interesting, as it was replaced in March (and the behaviour wasn't there prior to it being fitted, at least the dripping overflow's stopped!) What could be the reason do you think, is it faulty? Wondering if I can bat it back over to the chap that fitted it...

    (Very) Noisy Pipes

Hi all, Got a strange one here, just wondering if anyone's heard of this before? Over the last couple of months we've had a quite alarming vibration/resonance coming through the pipes, it's so bad it actually causes the downstairs lamps to rattle! Luckily, it only happens in a very specific...

Heating System Flush - Clogged Again

From memory it was (probably) X800 circulated for a couple of hours, then an inhibitor/X400 (possibly) mix left in, with water obviously. No power flush oldbuffer, just a hose I think, and 9 radiators.

Heating System Flush - Clogged Again

Just over a month ago I had my heating system flushed due to the downstairs radiators being for the most part, cold. A flush through with cleaner worked a treat, and the system was running beautifully, quiet and all radiators were hot to the bottom, that was until this week when we started to...

    Help With Privet Hedge Please

Hi all, Earlier this year I had a bare root privet hedge planted, all seems to be well but I have a couple of questions. Firstly one of them appears to have died, it did have a flurry at the start but the buds/leaves have dried up and fallen off (I suspect due to this relentless sun and no...

Bath Sealant For Use On Natural Stone Tiles?

Much appreciated, I've had a look and the following looks spot on: "As a universal adhesive CT1 bonds to all metals (including lead), glass, mirrors, all woods, MDF, polystyrene, fibreglass, tiles, concrete, most stones (without staining), most synthetic materials, plastics (excluding PP, PE...

Bath Sealant For Use On Natural Stone Tiles?

They're wall tiles, surrounding the bath. I know you say there's lots, but finding one which specifically says it's suitable for stone is proving elusive, which is why I asked for a suggestion. It's also an existing bathroom, so I've no idea who installed it or when.
