    Correct cable selection

My intention is to run some 5050 LED strip under the kitchen cabinets, the issue that I have is that I have to go up and over the extractor and back down the other side to continue the run. I dont want to go up and over with the LED strip so I will need to cut and connect the LED strip...

    FCU's and Spurs

2 questions for you very knowledgeable people... 1) Is it acceptable and safe to take a switched FCU from a double socket that is already a spur its self and connect a <5A outdoor light to it ? (Fuse in FCU will be 5A) 2) Again is it acceptable and safe to take a switched FCU from a...

Wow..Very details post, thanks very much, I think I understood most of it Given what you have said, I might as well give LED's a shot and see how well they work. Thanks

    Amp-hours calculation

i've been looking at the light output and, going on stated values, the LED's seam to give out about half the Lumen Value of Halagons. Im willing to give them a go though, im not looking for "flood" lighting and the bulbs sit inside a reflective casing.

    Amp-hours calculation

Just following on from my thread yesterday about adding new exterior lights..... I wanted to check that I have some load calculations correct. If I have 2 lights each with 2 x G9 75W 230V bulbs in them the load would be 2 x 75 = 150 x 2 = 300 / 230 = 1.304 Amps If I were to replace...

    Security / Garden Light wiring

I think instead of putting "notifiable" I should have said that I think the work should be carried out by a Part P certified electrician

    Security / Garden Light wiring

I was under the asumption that this would be notifiable as the lighting is: A) Outside B) Hard wired to the existing wiring and not plugged into an existing socket Ill have to check tonight what type of circuit it is and the breaker size but in terms of Load demand, very little else is...

    Security / Garden Light wiring

On my garage wall I have 2 Up / Down lighters with GU10's in, similar to these although wired into a separate stand alone PIR. http://www.screwfix.com/p/lap-gl-cil26apir-stainless-steel-up-down-wall-light-pir-35w/48480# The power for the lights is taken from a FCU which is spured from...

    One for you Megaflo People

Just recently I have noticed a very very very small amount of water when I look at the Tundish. By very small I mean a drip of water on the outlet that just hangs off the little cone shape part. If you didn't actually bend down and look up inside the tundish you wouldn't see it. When...

Rushing water sound when system is hot

Ill have a look in the f and e tomorrow. I've felt the expansion pipe and its only slightly warm as it goes up into the loft. The house is only 2 years old, surely the feed can't get sludged up so quickly ?

Rushing water sound when system is hot

Yep, open vented system What could cause the feed from the f and e to be restricted ? Any particular reason why I only get the noise when the system has been running for an hour or so ?

Rushing water sound when system is hot

Here's my problem When my heating has been running for 50 mins or so I can here a noise of water rushing to the boiler and the Wilo pump is making a sort of gurgling noise. This only happens after an hour of the system being run. Any ideas ? Is it just air ? Do I need to do anything or...

Changing Switched Fuesd Spur to Single Socket

I currently have a switched fused spur which does nothing. It was put in place when the house was built to wire an electric fire place too but as we dont have a fireplace its basically redundant. Would I be able to remove the switched connection unit and wire in place a single 3 pin socket...

    Strange Dripping Overflow

Just got in, the heating has been running for about 45 mins and it has let out 1 drip, can't get into the loft but I can't hear any water being put back into the F and E.

    Strange Dripping Overflow

The overflow comes from the Expansion and Feed cistern. Im not convinced that there is any steam but then I cant think any other reason there would be condensation. I had the boiler stat down to 40ish degrees today and the overflow still dripped. I checked the pipe work coming from the...
