Painting pine and mdf (at the same time!)

I have MDF door frames, and pine skirting and architrave. I'm confused over what primer and undercoat I need. I see Ronseal sell multi surface primer, which is ok for wood and mdf, but then what undercoat do I need? I'm confused as lots of products don't mention if they are ok for mdf...

    Finishing pine stairs (staning?)

I need to pain the handrails, spindles and sides of the stairs I have. They are new stairs and are made of pine. I'm carpeting the treads, so I don't have to worry about the pine being walked on. I would like a darker colour, maybe a sort of cherry or oak colour. I'm struggling to...

I'm adding a radiator to an existing boiler system that was installed last year (Worcestor 30SI boiler). I'm trying to keep the amount of flux added to the system down to a minimum by flushing out most of the new pipework, but obivously when I connect the new pipe work to the old it will then...

    Straps for holding pipework

I'm after a metal or plastic strap that has holes in it so I can nail it to wood. I'm sure something like exists, but can't seem to find it anywhere. The idea is it wraps around the pipe or insulation and then I can tack it onto ground level floor joists. Does such a thing exist? Thanks.

    Stupid question about square washers

This is probably a stupid question but what is the purpose of square washers over round washers on timber? Do the square washers have to be level against then timber, I.e. top of the washer is level and flat? Cheers!

Bit of an odd question, which I can't seem to find any answer for, so thought I'd post it up in here. My semi is a 3 bedroom house, but the 3rd bedroom is very small. The loft is so big that I wish to do a loft conversion. I'm struggling to figure out where I can put the loft stairs due...

Hi, I've recently purchased a house and need some help. Due to the poor plaster in the house (1930's semi house) I'm taking it all off and I've come across a problem tonight. The dining room chimney has been removed at some stage (and it used to go through the bathroom). After...
