    Location of cistern

One thing to consider regarding bends - can you use the 'melt the pipe' method? You may be able to get some smoother sweeping bends. Will only cost you one pipe to try it out. Also if you are boxing that pipe in then you may be able to make it a bit more direct rather than following the path you...

    PeNdants to LED Battens

Thanks, what I might do is suggest rather than having them connected they turn the the other way so they are parallel - that may work better for this particular kitchen as the light will reach both sides.

    PeNdants to LED Battens

Been lumbered with a problem to sort out by family. Kitchen has 2 peNdants. They are on one circuit so they both come on together. My sister wants to replace them with an LED batten. Problem is the pedants are around 8ft apart and most easily available battens come at 6ft. It may be possible...

    Floorboards vs Chipboard

Further to my 2015 post. I did have floorboards put down In the end and don't regret it - they were glued and screwed - doesn't stop some of them creaking though!

    Bedroom - vinyl v laminate

Hi I have a bedroom with carpet but I need to make it waterproof as I have a relative who is elderly and often drops food/drink onto the floor. The floor already has hardboard on it (stapled on) - I am considering just putting vinyl down as it seems it would be the simplest option Other option...

    Do I have to fill?

Last year I had walls newly skimmed and painted in the usual way (mist coat/2 layers top coat). There are some areas where the paint has been scraped off back to plaster layer. I did some research and general feeling is to fill these before painting to bring the level back up. I did this by...

Is it normal to not use flexible hoses under sinks?

As stated, either system can be used - although some taps come with flexi hoses that go into the tap directly as you have to use those flexis. I personally think copper is the 'gold standard' -although it is more work (although shouldn't be hard for a pro)

Removing a strap on boss - solvent welded

just a standard size with a 40mm adapter - it is an OSMA one I believe No it needs to come off but be replaced in place. maybe i will try and demo it out on a scrap piece of pipe first and see what happens.

Removing a strap on boss - solvent welded

I need to remove and replace a boss which is solvent welded on. I have seen advice on the net that for solvent welded ones you can try using a chisel and a heat gun. Has anyone managed to do it successfully without ruining the pipe? Also I would image the solvent weld originally would have...

    Painting over brush marks

well i tried it on first glance - the colour matches as it was before so it doesnt stand out but the paint has 'soaked' back into what was there - so even though i did initally leave a rough surface - when the paint dried it just replicated exactly what was there before. the paint is crown...

    Painting over brush marks

I;ve got some quiet visible brush cutting in marks around sockets - after a recent paint job - abiut 3 weeks ago. I was intending to go over them with a mini roller in the hope the stipple effect would blake it blend in a little more. One of the sales assistants at the Crown shops reckosn this...

    Dulux brilliant white - cream

Just to add the OP could argue the decorators were negligent and pursue them - bit more risky though. Makes no difference the OP did not check the paintif he paid a professional to use the materials. Unless he said he had checked. You would expect a pro to pick up on a massive difference in...

    Dulux brilliant white - cream

I think that is open to debate... You then start asking questions as to when do you actually know the paint is not right - after 1 or 2 coats or immediatley when you look at it i nthe pot? I know that paints will sometimes look different ocne on - often darker IME. I do accept cream looks...

    Dulux brilliant white - cream

Its actually pretty straightforward contract law issue. If you bought the paint from a retailer - whether that be a Dulux shop or any other retailer - your contract is with the retailer. Anything Dulux do in addition as manufacturer is up to them 9unless they were the retailer). If the paint...

    Painting queries

I have almost mist coated my hosue and am about to move onto my top coats 1) on the ceiling if my white paint comes down the side of the walls does it matter? I am thinking it will be painted over with 2 layers of my top coat colour anyway - but is there is a risk of paint build up being...

    Dulux paint from Wickes

Just to confirm I bought soem Crown trade paints the other day its £26 for vinyl matt and £36 for their hard wearing clean extreme scrubbable matt - I went for the clean extreme. I have applied a small amoutn but I can confirm it is very thick compared to standard DIY retail paint - but not...

    Mist coat - chalky finish

I ptu some Macphersons on last night at 50/50 - inital view is that although it is chalky it is not anywhere near as bad- I would say it is more 'dusty'. Could be down to the fact that it is watered down more - or the fact that I put the Leyland on too thick - overall I am more content that I...

    Dulux paint from Wickes

Crown paints are currently selling 5l for about £26inc VAT. Their coverage is soemthing like 70sqm and I think normal retail paints are about 35 to 40 - so actually you might end up paying a simialr amount per sqm if you buy trade.

    Mist coat - chalky finish

I should add I am aware of all the different opinions onlien of whether to do 20% 30 40 50 or even 60% mix for the mist coat. Also about whether to do 1 or 2 coats. I will aim to do 1 coat at 60/40 or maybe 50/50.

    Mist coat - chalky finish

Hi The walls are all new plaster (plasterboarded and skimmed - not rendered) - they have had 3-4 weeks to dry and I am happy they are dry as they are all a uniform light pink colour. I think maybe I did roll it on too thick - will a dmap cloth remvoe all the chalkiness or do I need to sand...
