Can this window stay open wider?

Hello I have a window like this, attached. I can open it wider so the pane is parallel to the ground, but it doesn't stay like that. It falls back to this position. How can it be "held" in the very wide open position? I have a similar window in the house (but smaller) and that is more...

Painting over damp and peeling paint

Thanks for the help! I'll investigate the peeling paint a bit more, I am not too sure.. it is only a tiny proportion of the whole kitchen so I don't want to scrape everything off.

Painting over damp and peeling paint

Hello I have a large kitchen to paint in the next few weeks. It was last painted by the previous owners, maybe 8-10 years ago. As can be seen in the second photo, some of the paint has peeled off. The same sort of peeling has occurred in a few small places in the kitchen. As can be seen in...

Mist coat over filler - didn't do it.

Thanks everyone. Will take a look again when I get home and see how it looks. As it happens, I think I have that exact primer at home.

Mist coat over filler - didn't do it.

Thanks John D! So a mist coat over the one "full" coat I've already done?

Mist coat over filler - didn't do it.

Hi I am preparing/repurposing a bedroom into an office. It was last painted three years ago in the same colour (white with a hint of grey), but has had a fair amount of wear and tear in that time, new holes and cracks on the walls to fill, marks/scuffs etc. I have prepared the walls for...

    Outdoor tiles, edges against walls

Thanks! I think silicone in grey would be good. It's a garden wall....

    Outdoor tiles, edges against walls

Hi Part of our garden is tiled, and there are a few steps up to the lawn. There is a gap between the floor tiles and the walls, you can probably just about see the gap in the attached picture (ignore debris and poor lighting). The gap, narrow as it is, exists all around the area at the...

What rawl plug and where to aim for

Thank you! It went well, all worked, and I am very happy with the blind.

What rawl plug and where to aim for

Thanks everyone. This is what it looks like now. Would you still expect there to be wood behind the plaster above the window?

    Gutter / pipes routing

Hello I have a downpipe that leads water to a flat roof, and I want to direct it elsewhere. The photo shows...I want the water to go through the opening on the right. There is a "catcher" just through there, which will then take it down to the ground and to safety! What do I need to buy to...

What rawl plug and where to aim for

conny, thanks a lot. Actually, yes, I completely missed them, rawl plugs were supplied! They're not tiny so they give me confidence that it'll be a secure fit. The screws also supplied are 4cm in length - do you think that will be long enough to go through the plasterboard? (not sure how thick...

What rawl plug and where to aim for

Hello Probably an easy answer to many....but not to me! This is a picture of a room under construction, a few weeks ago. There is now a window where I've drawn a blue square. I think plasterboard was added, and the painting has been done. I would now like to add a blind over the window...

    Garden tiles, repair

We have some garden tiles in our garden, on a flat area and on three steps. Three of them have come off. I attach a picture of one that I've lifted up, with what is underneath. I've also noticed that the grout (?, ie the stuff between some other times) has cracked or generally doesn't look...

    Garden wall, repainting

Hi As a test, I have scraped off part of the wall as Londoner2 suggested - see attached! I am going to practice on a small part of the wall first! I have got the filler, and some SBR as I heard that PVA wasn't as water resistant. I am ready to do the filling, but how do I apply the SBR after...

Putting up a shelf (probably easy)

Thanks Tigercubrider. That's what I thought initially. Essentially the shelf would be resting on the screwhead. It just doesn't feel like the most secure way. Maybe it is though.

Putting up a shelf (probably easy)

Thanks John, much appreciated. Here are photos of the front and the back of the shelf. The pencil and drilling parts are no problem, but I'm failing to grasp how the shelf attaches to the wall!
