    Identify this TRV?

Thanks, that's good to know. Just while I'm at it, I've read about replacing the gland seal. Would that be the little black assembly with the pin imbedded in it? Could I just replace that bit (although I see that I might need a special tool to do it)? Same old question though, would a TVR4 gland...

    Identify this TRV?

Can anyone identify this, probably very old, TRV? I've seen one like it called the Draton TRV4 but it's not exactly the same and I'm keen to be able to replace the existing one without any messing about with the pipe or rad. The problem is the little brass pin is stuck almost fully down and...

identifying a coax lead - sat or standard aerial

Forgive my ignorance but what is Freesat, if not Freeview via satellite?

identifying a coax lead - sat or standard aerial

Thanks. I obviously need to have a closer look at that dish.

identifying a coax lead - sat or standard aerial

Thanks everyone. Interesting idea that the flats could have been equipped with a multi switch. I'm now thinking, however, that a previous owner simply used 'standard' TV coax and fittings to connect to a spare output on the sat dish and plugged it into a sat receiver box and got good...

identifying a coax lead - sat or standard aerial

Ok, here's the thing. New flat (owned, purpose built block, 1970's) has a standard aerial point in the living room - looks old, ie original and works fine. Only one coax lead connected (I've removed the cover to check). Another coax appears from the corner of one bedroom, quite long, cream...

technique for removing some tiles, leaving surrounding ones

I may decide to move a double socket thats been fitted on a tiled wall. Small tiles, 6" square approx. and I have replacements. Is there a particular technique to this, or just bash the one to come out and gradually unpick the pieces from the wall. Perhaps remove the surrounding grout first...

Memo to self: Your leg is not a cutting board.

I've just watched Monty Don, on Gardeners World, cutting a pot bound plant out of its plastic pot. He has the pot between his legs and is cutting forcefully towards his knadgers, with his trusty 'stab me vitals' knife. I couldn't believe this got past the BBC health and safety police. Of...

Toyota Avensis Engine managment light stays on

This may be of some help. I had to have the Mass Air Flow Sensor replaced, costing around £200 each time, in 2007 and 2010, on my 1999 Toyota yaris. Each time the amber engine management light had come on (it is only ever amber, I think). A week ago it came on again and this time I decided to...

    Heated Towel Rail

Are you sure that stuck one is actually stuck shut? It might be fully open. Try turning it clockwise a bit first. You never know. You wouldn't be the first person to struggle to open something that was already open.

    success Repressurising expansion vessel

No, i didn't add inhibitor. Only a couple of litres of water is drained off, so I didn't think it necessary. Actually, I don't know how I would have done it in a closed system like this. Perhaps you could start a new thread with that question?

    success Repressurising expansion vessel

Yesterday I finally got around to sorting out my Worcester Bosch 28Si. It had been showing low pressure and when recharged, the pressure went up to 3.5 bar. It didn't vent though, no water or drips from the overflow, so i was lucky there. Followed the guidance in the faqs section and it all...

recorded tv still freezing and jumping

Cheers. Yes, I read that link thanks. Post code is EX8 3DS. Aerial was fitted just over a year ago. Not sure how to describe the type. It has a mast head amplifier, as explained earlier by Lucid. Also, no idea what type of coax cable. I could supply photos, I suppose, of the aerial and...

recorded tv still freezing and jumping

Just thought I'd mention that I unscrewed the aerial faceplate today and it's not of the screened type -at least not like the ones I've seen on the internet. There's no metal box that surrounds the lead connection area. I've ordered one of those and will report back in a few weeks with progress.

Thanks for such a comprehensive reply Lucid. Thanks also to you Sam. Lots to think about and info to gather. Unfortunately the hard disk player doesn't have a scart lead, so I can't compare scart against hdmi. I'll look into the hdmi lead and socket ideas and will maybe buy another hdmi...
