Which is faulty, ignition unit or flourescent tube ?

Moved into house. In garage is a flourescent tube light but it doesn't work. Before I go out and spend money, I'd like to see what's wrong. As the wires on my mini tester do not stretch to either end of the tube  , I thought I'd test the ignition unit. Is it as simple as testing a fuse...

Fitting a cat flap in an aluminium door.

I've done a search and all the cat flap-related queries are to do with UPVC doors with two panels. What about the older aluminium/metal doors. Is it possible to remove the lower section of glass and cut a hole in it or replace it with a different material ? Thanks :)

White reflective chips on flat roofs

Quick questions. Will probably need to get this done in the next 12 months. 1) Is it worth waiting for next spring/summer "when the weather is good and warmer" or does that not really matter ? 2) Should you always have the reflective white stones/chips on the roof ? They seem to make...

Run two electric showers off a combi boiler ?

Hello. I have had a chat with a plumber who suspects that it will not be possible to run, concurrently, an electric shower downstairs and another electric shower upstairs because they both run off the mains pressure which will not be enough for two showers. The boiler is a Worcester Bosch...

Wooden worktops - hardy or just fancy

Hello. As part of a new kitchen, we are deciding on a wooden worktop or not. I favour granite as it is hard wearing but the wife fancies wood. I fear that a wooden worktop is not as hardy and is more suceptable to dents, scratches and getting stained, eg. by a rushed chilli or ketchup or...
