    light switch and cabinet

Brill. So it seems feasible. I'll be asking an electrician to do it when it comes to it to make sure it is safe and there are other switches higher up which i'd be scared to touch! Good to know there are ways to do it, thanks.

    light switch and cabinet

Hi I have a question about the siting of light switches. My in-laws have asked me to install some kitchen cabinets for them in their utility room. The problem I have is due to the depth of the cupboard its side would cover an existing light switch, if pushed right up to the wall (which is where...

Hi I am in process of changing my kitchen. First fix electrics been done, having it plastered on Thursday. I've left the sink in at present but wanted to remove for plastering and then expected it to remain out of use until plumber comes to put in new pipework. My issue is that there are no...

    Kitchen Walls

Hi I'm in the process of preparing to install a new kitchen. The current kitchen is really old, probably been in 30 plus years. The house itself is also old (1785). I have attached some photos of the state of the wall after starting to remove existing cupboards. parts of the already exposed...

Ah I think I see now, yeah I think the splines are ok. How do I identify correct thread size? They are kitchen taps I'm imagining they're going to be a pain to remove, we think they have been in 30+ years and there is a lot of limescale etc. built up. any tips on help with loosening them?

It is really old and in a really old kitchen. We're in the process of planning for a new one, so I don't...

    No hot water

So, I've encountered another issue. I re-wired the element in, all went ok. However, as the immersion came on I noticed a smell and a little smoke coming from the cover. I removed it and there was smoke coming from the neutral wire and it was glowing a bit orange! I have attached some pictures...

    No hot water

Ah, now that makes sense to me. The AGA made the water incredibly, especially during the warmer weather. So it may have tripped the switch on the thermostat - but functionally this unit will still be ok? So I popped the button back down, wired it up and it is heating up. So if i sort the dodgy...

    No hot water

i've just noticed when I removed the thermostat to look at length that the reset button had popped up. Does this imply the problem was with the thermostat?

    No hot water

i also used it to test the thermostat which didn't give a reading. Would this imply the thermostat is broken? would a broken thermostat stop the whole system functioning? At the moment i'm thinking replace the thermostat and sort the dangerous wiring - does this sound a reasonable plan? Cheers

    No hot water

So I've borrowed a multimeter from a neighbour. I got a reading of around 19/20 ohms - which the video suggested is in the normal range? I'm assuming that this just tests the element and not the supply. So could it be that the element is fine, but a rewire and reset might be the best way...

    No hot water

would you advise that as the best first step, I can go and buy a multimeter tomorrow If it was broken is it a fairly easy fix, or would you recommend getting someone with a bit more experience in to sort the wires properly etc? I'm happy to follow advice and I have done bits before (there is a...
