Concealed cistern, replacing the flush valve

Thanks for the replies all. I can't find the exact valve online, the pic is very similar but slightly different, which leaves me with replacement. In terms of the compression fitting connectig the flush pipe to the flush valve, if mine gets damaged on removal, where does one find a...

Concealed cistern, replacing the flush valve

Good morning all, The flush valve on my bog cistern is sticking open, I believe it is the switch for some reason placing too much tension on the cable and jamming it open as without the switch on the cable the valve closes properly. Regardless, I don't think I can change it separately so it all...

    Removing posts from metpost supports

Thanks all, much appreciated. I like the lever fulcrum idea, will give that a shot. In the event that the metpost itself gets pulled out, do I just whack it back in with postcrete? Cheers, Donny

    Removing posts from metpost supports

Hi all, My garden is raised relative to the neighbour's with a block retaining wall. The fence separating the two gardens runs along the retaining wall with the posts going into concreted in met post holders in the wall itself. Time has come to replace the 10 panel fence and the posts (want a...

There is no permanent deformation in my cable. It went back to hanging vertically and you wouldn't tell which bit I bent. As such, pretty sure it is not armoured. Outside did feel more like rubber than pvc, left black marks on my hand. No lettering that I can see. Will check the end of the...

This stuff will easily make a 3 inch radius. Just feels like a thick bit of extension lead flex. A mate of mine who fits burglar alarms was of the opinion it was not armoured but the magnet is a good idea. Could check inside the junction box too.

How flexible is armoured cable? Only stuff I've felt was still on the roll and a bit hard to play with.

It's definitely badly buried. I can see half of it, the other half is about 6 inches deep. Tempted to dig in a conduit, the wife has been warned away for now but I can see pots of passionfruit and clematis appearing which will want burying soon. I don't know for sure if it is armoured but I...

As an aside, the circuit labelled "shower" with what appears to be a 40 A mcb is redundant because the shower now runs off the hot water supply from the boiler. Any reason I can't have that circuit appropriated for use in the garage? Running a cable from the CU to the loft looks problematic.

On a related note, there is an unused shower supply in the loft - could that be used for the garage? Very helpful, thankyou!

Ah... just realised I've been a bit dim... A garage CU on the current setup would be pointless because it may trip back at the house anyway - losing both the lights and the sockets regardless of whether there was a CU in the garage. So what you said earlier . Point taken (y).

I must say, cutting through power supplies isn't at the top of my bucket list . Glad that the garage power supply isn't as dodgy as I had first thought though (y).

Again, thanks for the response, much appreciated. Currently there is one cable into the garage, this goes into a four way junction box. one cable coming out of it feeds sockets, the other two are lights/light switch. I'm in my garage with an angle grinder - I cut through the power cable...

Hi Ban all sheds, Thanks for your response. I wanted a garage CU so I can have sockets and lights that won't both trip at the same time should something go wrong. It also seemed dodgy to have several sockets and lights running as a spur from an indoor circuit, but alas I'm no expert. The garage...

Thanks for the reply! Anyway, miscommunication on my part - I've just bought the house, the "selling in the not too distant future" comment was to mean I want it to be above board because I will sell in a couple of years as I move around for work and could do without any issues - although...

Morning all, I recently moved house and found that the external garage had power, supplied by a cable coming out of the loft. Upon checking it seems that the cable leading to the garage is part of the upstairs socket ring, extended out to the garage using what appears to be unarmoured cable...

Decking over grass - simple foundations

Afternoon all, I'm thinking of fitting some decking in my garden. The area to be covered is fairly level grass and I don't want the deck to be raised. My neighbour recently did something similar, he used stacks of broken paving slabs to level and support the deck frames, lined the underside...
