    Garden drainage astroturf

Hi. I put astroturf down in my garden last year..diy job. Garden has a slight slope. I put down a hardcore base then a 30mm layer of sharp sand. Really happy with the garden until recently...we have 2 labs which the new grass has been great with. Now the weather is hot the kids have had the...

    Driveway notice

The grass at the side is owned by someone else. I'd have to knock my house down to drive in and out :D the drive start point is 8m from the road but 7m wide so i should be able to put a dropped kerb on the far side. Thanks for all of your comments

    Driveway notice

Just been on the website it has a 10m rule to a junction. We're on a corner plot so near to a junction. Not sure how close as we have a patch of grass then the footpath but 10m is a long way so not looking good. ( I'll measure later ) 2 houses opposite also on a junction have entrances to...

    Driveway notice

Just got of the phone to the council. We have to apply for dropped kerb which we dont mind but it might be refused still. It doesn't matter how long it has been a driveway in place. Also we'd have to pay to have the kerb at the back of our house raised to stop access to the garage which you...

    Driveway notice

Thanks for the reply. The garage has no access now unless i take the garden fence down. Just been reading about a 4 year rule with regards to permission so hopefully i can just pay to get the kerb dropped properly.

    Driveway notice

Hi, just returned home to a letter from the council. We have a driveway at the front with no dropped kerb ( the kerb is low but not dropped ). The letter states we have to apply for permission to use the front as a driveway and to drop the kerb. It also notes we have a garage in our back garden...

    building regs

Hi. I'm currently building a single storey extension. On my building notice form to the council i informed them a non qualified person would be installing the electrics so it would need testing/signing off by them. At what point do i get them out for this? First fix or when its all up and...

    permitted or not

Will do cheers. The house is wider as we started short of the kitchen window but went a bit extra the other way.

    permitted or not

Hi. I'm starting to doubt if my new extension was permitted development. The house is detached so i built out 4m and across 4.5m. The width of the extension sticks out about 800mm further than the house line. My house is about 1m from my side fence so the extension is in my boundary but not in...

    Glulam Beam

Original plan was to have a ridge board so a 140x270 glulam should be more than man enough.....if not keep your eye on the diy disasters forum!!

    Glulam Beam

Haha, that beam will be fine as it's only the ridge for the rafters to lean on

    Glulam Beam

No but had my 3 year old lad out testing it with his plastic hammer he thinks I've done a cracking job Bc been out and they're more than happy so far told him my plans for the roof which he said should be fine. Just a bit unsure now if i should go with c16 or c24 timber

    Glulam Beam

No guess work so far but its never too late! All gone ok so far bar the wall tie spacing which was easily rectified with help from a few on here. I feel fairly confident with the roof just wanted peoples views if it sounded right. I might have to get a structural engineer for the interior beam...
