    Do I need a windpost.

Hi I have a 2.2m gap going into my gardens side entrance. I want to put an aluminium gate accross it supported by two brick posts. I had a concrete base put down for my patio and left a an area at the very top for my brick posts to sit on. One side would by 900m wide and 2200mm high - the...

Outdoor porcelain - grout or selka fast fix

Just had a patio laid. And the builder saying that selka fast fix is better for outside by I always pictured it being grouted to look like a perfect floor. I’ll attach a photo of the patio and see what you guys think. The patio was laid straight on to a concrete base will adhesive They...

What do you guys thing of this? (Quality of new roof build)

Thanks both. I tend to agree. I wouldn't have noticed unless someone pointed it out (like they did). I thought the thickness of the cement between tiles looked too thick, but upon closer inspection on one of the original tiles at the bottom of the new tiles in one pf the photos - they have...

What do you guys thing of this? (Quality of new roof build)

Thanks for reply. The roofer was one of the builders. It’s like a team that does all and apparently this was his “roofing guy”.

What do you guys thing of this? (Quality of new roof build)

Evening all We’ve just had an extension built and I innocently showed a friend at work a photo of the roof and he said that the roof tiling looked a terrible job. He thinks there’s too much cement between the tile and it’s a bit messy. What do you guys think?

    architrave tolerance.

But some of them are perfectly right. It’s only about 7 out of 14 joints that are “gappy”. He said it’s something to do with needing the detailing to match up and not wanting to force it back to the wall. I assume the walls are out. New walls that they plastered.

    architrave tolerance.

Sadly I’ve lost this battle. I met with the joiner this morning and he looked at me like o was crazy. He said there’s so much glue on the architrave they can never move and the decorator will take care of all of these gaps.

    architrave tolerance.

In all fairness that wall where you see the webbing hasn’t been plastered yet, as we are waiting for windows to be fitted on that side With regard to the mitred joints - they have been done by a carpenter and one that multiple people we know have recommended as a “perfectionist with an eye...

    architrave tolerance.

So I spoke to my builder (I'm having a complete reno and extension) and he's saying that is normal tolerance and the decorater will fill in the gaps before painting. BS? BTW the door frames and wall are all new and built by him!

    architrave tolerance.

Thank you. Very helpful. I think the bad mitred joints are bothering me more than the gaps at the sides. We bought quite decorative architrave and to see it not seamlessly join up on the mitres is disappointing. I just didn’t know if I was being too fussy. I’ll attach photos.

    architrave tolerance.

It’s only like that at the top. At the floor level until about 3/4 of the way up is much closer to the wall. It’s starts coming away from the wall at the top quarter.

    architrave tolerance.

Morning all. I have had some architrave fitted on newly built walls and door frames and some of it is perfectly neat and flush and some have big gaps around the edges as big as around 6mm. Also a couple of the mitred corners are a bit uneven. I’ll attach photos. My question is - is this all...

    Foundation pads after steels

Spoke to my builder again tonight and he genuinely looked at me like I was crazy. He assured me that it would be correct when he's finished. He explained he had to doit this way, because he has to remove the existing internal floor. He invited both the SE and BI to check it to reassure me. He...

    Foundation pads after steels

In all fairness he told me the BI had approved it. But the steels only went in 5 days ago and the BI last visited 10 days ago. So unless he pre approved his method - I’m not sure how to interpret that.

    Foundation pads after steels

So to be clear, in your guys opinions. It is not possible to retrospectively put a concrete pad underneath an already erected steel column? I will of course now speak to my SE and maybe the BI. As builder told me he has signed it off.

There you go. Photos from below floor, one above. These steels - along with several acrows are current holding the entire house up.

    Foundation pads after steels

Hi all I'm having an extension built and knocking through the back wall. My builder has put two vertical steels and one horizontal steel to hold up the top floor of the house - a goalpost if you like My question in the structural engineers drawings, it states the the two vertical columns...
