    Kitchen electrics alterations

Oh, that's awkward - are you sure? In a phone call to my local building control they said I just needed to notify the individual jobs. I've done it all now!

integrated dishwasher wiring - is this even safe?....

Can also use an FCU inside the cupboard with cables and flex all hidden. Flex to a socket behind dishwasher if there's space, or somewhere near. Or use one of those lighting style connectors if happy to cut off plug.

Megaflo - hot water outlet pipe always hot?

About a year ago I noticed that a cold water tap in my house sometimes ran hot. It took me a few weeks to work out that a check valve on my megaflo was on backwards. It didn't hold temperature well. Also the tank would empty when turning off stopcock and opening a cold tap. It had been...

What Do I Fill Chase With If The Substrate Behind The Plaster Is Brick he Other Side Of The Wall is External?

Lime putty isn't very expensive and isn't very difficult to use. The problem is you have to pay for delivery and it's heavy because it has lots of water. It was handy to have some around for smallish repairs. I usually like to do repairs using the same materials as original. So if lime...

Yes, I have a roll of 50mm scrim tape. Do you mean dig down to the conduit in a 50mm wide channel?

    plaster crack at electrical conduit

I'm decorating a room, and repairing a few plaster imperfections. One is a vertical hairline crack, really not too bad but noticeable. I raked out a little and found the edge of an electrical conduit. It's about 4 or 5mm deep (half multifinish and half sand/cement). Looks like plastic...

    capping unusual chimney pot

Many thanks. In the end I got scared about the height and employed a roofer. He did as you suggested, with slate, side ventilation & flaunch (but no reduction in height). It looks fine.

internal door hinges. too many choices!

I'm not very confident choosing door hinges. Since I've taken down 4 internal doors, I want to replace the hinges because they look flimsy & cheap. The doors are nice, solid softwood, 6.5'x2.75', 40mm thick and 23Kg. Each door has 3 nasty cheap fake brass look hinges (3", 1mm). My other...

    capping unusual chimney pot

How would I go about capping this funny looking chimney pot? The chimney is being decommissioned, so it doesn't have to be a temporary job.

    new kitchen waste drainage

great, thanks for comments. Details of bends and pipe size are much appreciated. Pipes will all be behind kitchen cabinets. There will need to be enough space for a washing machine, so I'll arrange for deeper worktop. many thanks

    new kitchen waste drainage

OK thank you. That's 2 votes for simple and above ground so I'll forget about digging up the patio slabs. I could actually run the pipe on the inside of the house and join up with the existing waste pipe. The run would be: Dishwasher & kitchen sink -> 1.5m -> 90 bend, through wall ->...

    new kitchen waste drainage

My new kitchen is behind this wall and I need to add drainage for a sink & dishwasher. I wonder if anyone has suggestions for an effective way to do it. There are 2 rooms behind this wall. To left, a utility room with existing drainage (as seen). To right, the new kitchen with no...

    filling door threshold cavity

Great, many thanks for the reply. I have already filled it and not bridged the DPC. DPC is at level of bottom of door frame, and runs under it. The screed level (and flooring) will be higher than the DPC though. Do I just run DPM up the wall and door sill and cut off a floor height?
